Job Summary
The Office of Distance Education within the External Programs Engineering and Computing Department is seeking a student to join their team of professionals . This position will assist with all aspects of the execution and operation of a college-wide distance education system. This position will also assist the department with day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the unit.
Duties will include:
- Monitoring and recording class lectures and web conferences using course capturing systems and software.
- Maintaining quality control standards and correcting issues.
- Providing customer service for students, faculty and staff including: emails, answering phones, in-person and classroom support.
- Demonstrating and consulting faculty on best practices for lecture capture and course delivery.
- Ensuring that issues are logged and reported immediately to the appropriate department.
- Performing basic troubleshooting and testing of AV equipment and related technologies.
- Assisting with proctoring of exams in compliance with FIU’s testing policies.
- Updating course pages on Canvas, department website and calendars, scheduling systems, and social media pages.
- Maintaining of department inventory, work area, procedure manuals, and classrooms.
- Researches new technologies and best practices to enhance instructional design and delivery.
- Collaborates with other university departments serving faculty and students on programs and services that will effectively meet needs.
- Assists with basic photo and video editing.
Hours of operation vary between 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. depending on department needs. Must be able to work flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends at the Engineering Center and other FIU Campuses.

Who May Apply
- Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.
- Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.
Work Schedule
Hours will vary based on class schedule and needs of the department.
