Job description

Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences is currently accepting applications for adjunct faculty members who can teach any of visual programming, HTML, PHP and Python. These faculty members will teach adult learners in our adult degree completion program. The courses meet in the evening one night per week.

Salary:
PLNU adjunct pay: PLNU pays adjuncts at a per unit rate. Using a 4-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay is approximately $8,900. The units will determine the actual salary.

As specific needs for adjuncts are not always known, applicants who meet the initial review for qualifications will be placed into an adjunct pool for consideration as positions become available. An email will be sent to notify you of your pool status.

Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective teaching in undergraduate courses as well as teaching in computer labs. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students as well as the ability to write syllabi and follow course plans. ​

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university. .

  • Industrial programming experience preferred.

  • Commitment to teaching excellence required. A minimum of one year teaching experience in higher education preferred.

  • Ability to learn relevant sections of Point Loma Nazarene University’s online integrated database system for student grading and the University’s learning management system.

  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.

  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU  will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local "Fair Chance" laws.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the department chair will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc.

Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicant will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
