At E Automotive Inc, we’re looking for an AI Project Engineer to turn the needs of teams across the business into working, production-grade software - directing AI through the full delivery lifecycle and owning the outcome end-to-end. This is a hands-on, high-autonomy role for someone who has spent roughly a decade building real software and, in recent years, has become fluent in building with AI. Rather than shipping a single product to external customers, you’ll deliver purpose-built internal tools that help departments work better and streamline how the organization actually operates, used by staff across the company.

The work spans the full stack and several disciplines - product, architecture, backend, frontend, DevSecOps, and compliance - and AI is central to how it gets done. A typical project begins with a request from a stakeholder, which you shape into clear requirements and a specification, then into an implementation plan. From there, you direct the AI to build the solution while you verify the result, adjust the code as needed, deploy it, and support it over time. We are looking for an engineer with a genuine track record of developing with AI, who is comfortable owning projects end-to-end rather than working from tightly defined handoffs, and who is proactive and effective at working independently.

The role sits on the IT & Infrastructure team and reports to our VP, and is fully remote across North America. Because projects come from across the company, you’ll work closely with subject-matter experts and stakeholders in many different departments - learning how each team operates, translating their needs into practical solutions, and partnering with them through delivery and the life of the tools you build. The common thread is purpose-built software that makes the organization run more smoothly.

We offer a competitive salary (CAD $160,000.00 - $180,000.00); a competitive bonus program; paid time off; participation in our benefits, RRSP matching, and life insurance programs; continuous learning; an amazing culture; and so much more!

Open to candidates across Canada; minimum 4-6 working hour overlap with EST.

What You Will Do:

  • Intake and Requirements

    • Take allocated projects directly from subject-matter experts and stakeholders, acting as a technical product manager and digesting often-ambiguous asks into clear, scoped requirements.

    • Collaborate with AI to draft and finalize a specification of what the solution must do; drive it through stakeholder review and approval before any build begins.

    • Define success criteria, constraints, and non-goals up front so the spec is unambiguous for both humans and AI.

  • Planning and Architecture

    • Once the spec is approved, wear every hat - architect, backend, frontend, security, and compliance - to define the implementation plan the AI agent will follow.

    • Make the architecture and technology calls, including how and where AI is used in the solution, and document trade-offs so the plan is reviewable and defensible.

    • Shepherd the plan through approval before implementation starts.

  • Implementation and Delivery (Directing AI)

    • Direct an AI agent to implement the approved plan, then stay accountable for the result: verify it does exactly what was asked and modify the code directly whenever needed.

    • Own deployment end-to-end, so solutions are genuinely usable by staff across the business.

    • Work fluently across the stack and across languages, applying sound engineering quality, testing, and security practices regardless of who - or what - wrote the code.

  • Maintenance and Ownership

    • Own the lifecycle of what you ship: triage incoming issues, reproduce them, and either fix them directly or give AI the context required to fix them.

    • Serve as the final reviewer and approver on every implementation - nothing ships without your sign-off, unless you give AI permission to do so.

    • Operate infrastructure (AWS, CI/CD, containers, observability) and uphold security and compliance throughout the lifecycle.

  • Ownership and Collaboration

    • Operate with high autonomy and a strong bias to action across many concurrent projects and stakeholders.

    • Communicate clearly with non-technical SMEs and stakeholders, translating between business intent and technical reality.

What You Will Need:

  • ~10 years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems, with demonstrated Staff-level scope and judgment.
  • Proven track record of AI development - using AI/LLM tooling to specify, build, and ship working software, and knowing where AI helps versus where it doesn’t.
  • Genuine full-stack ability across frontend and backend, and comfort working in multiple programming languages, including Node/TypeScript, Python, and Java, and frameworks such as Spring Boot, Express, Next, Tailwind, Radix, ShadCN, and React.
  • Strong architecture skills - you can own system design and make sound trade-offs across performance, cost, security, and reliability. Good understanding of various protocols, including GraphQL, REST, SOAP, and gRPC, and architecture patterns, such as Hexagonal, CQRS, EDA, and Layered, combined with design patterns.
  • Requirements & specification skills - experience turning ambiguous, non-technical asks into clear specs and implementation plans.
  • Hands-on AWS and DevOps experience - CI/CD, containers, IaC (Terraform and CDK), and production operations. Working knowledge of AWS services, such as S3, ECS, DynamoDB, Elasticache, OpenSearch, SQS/SNS, CloudFront, and Bedrock.
  • Security and compliance awareness built into how you design and deliver software.
  • Proactive, high-ownership operator who thrives with autonomy in a fully remote environment and can carry a project from intake through long-term maintenance.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience building internal tools and operational software for non-technical users.

  • Experience directing AI coding agents and reviewing/validating AI-generated code at scale.

  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., fintech, healthcare, insurance, automotive).

  • Familiarity with the current AI ecosystem (agent frameworks, eval tooling, vector databases, model providers).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay
  • Medical, Dental & Vision
  • 401k/RSP programs
  • Company paid Group Life/AD&D insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible working environment
  • Continuous Learning
  • And an amazing culture to top it all off!
