The Application Engineer – Radiology Workflow Orchestration is a member of the Lumexa IT Applications Implementations team, responsible for delivering complex, high-value clinical imaging technology initiatives across the enterprise. This team supports strategic implementations involving PACS, RIS, voice recognition, workflow orchestration, mammography, and other clinical imaging applications that drive growth, standardization, and innovation.
This role serves as the primary technical resource for radiology workflow orchestration technologies, responsible for designing, implementing, integrating, and optimizing workflows that ensure radiologists receive the right study at the right time from the right location with the right supporting information. The position partners closely with radiologists, operations leaders, clinical stakeholders, and technology teams to improve productivity, study distribution, operational efficiency, quality, and scalability across the enterprise imaging environment.
Key Responsibilities
Workflow Orchestration & Operational Optimization
- Serve as the subject matter expert for enterprise radiology workflow orchestration platforms and solutions.
- Design, implement, and optimize workflow strategies that improve study distribution, workload balancing, subspecialty routing, turnaround times, and radiologist productivity.
- Configure and maintain workflow orchestration platforms, business rules, and operational workflows aligned with organizational objectives and best practices.
- Monitor workflow performance and operational outcomes, proactively identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce exceptions, optimize resource utilization, and enhance customer service.
Application Engineering & Systems Integration
Lead the planning, design, implementation, and support of workflow orchestration technologies and related clinical imaging applications, including PACS, RIS, voice recognition, and ancillary systems.
Design and support integrations between workflow orchestration platforms and enterprise systems including PACS, RIS, physician scheduling, analytics platforms, productivity systems, and other clinical applications.
Gather and translate business, clinical, and technical requirements into system configurations, workflow designs, functional specifications, and implementation plans.
Serve as the escalation point for complex workflow, integration, and application issues, coordinating with internal teams and vendors to drive resolution.
Project Delivery & Enterprise Transformation
- Lead and support strategic initiatives involving workflow optimization, automation, standardization, acquisitions, system consolidations, and enterprise transformation projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, technical teams, infrastructure teams, vendors, and business stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle, including planning, architecture, configuration, testing, deployment, stabilization, and operational transition.
- Develop implementation methodologies, workflow standards, operational procedures, and supporting documentation to promote consistency and scalability across the organization
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Data & Analytics teams and operational leaders to ensure the integrity, consistency, and accuracy of workflow metrics, productivity reporting, operational dashboards, and performance analytics.
- Analyze workflow and operational data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support organizational efforts to improve physician productivity, quality, operational performance, and customer satisfaction through data-driven decision making.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Develop and deliver training programs, user guides, workflow documentation, and reference materials for radiologists, technologists, operations leaders, and support teams.
- Provide subject matter expertise and end-user support during implementations, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer to operational and support teams following project completion.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies, including functional, integration, interface, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing.
- Coordinate testing activities and validate system readiness for production deployment.
- Support post-implementation validation and stabilization activities to ensure successful adoption and operational performance.
Qualifications
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience supporting enterprise imaging systems such as PACS, VNA, RIS, or related clinical imaging technologies.
- 3-5 years of experience implementing radiology workflow orchestration solutions.
- Experience leading clinical application configuration, implementation, integration, testing, upgrades, and operational support activities.
- Experience working within complex, multi-site, multi-entity healthcare organizations.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of radiology workflow orchestration, imaging operations, and clinical imaging workflows.
- Strong knowledge of PACS, RIS, voice recognition, and related imaging technologies.
- Experience with HL7, DICOM, XDS/XCA, and healthcare interoperability standards.
- Working knowledge of system infrastructure, networking, interfaces, and application troubleshooting.
- Experience with workflow analytics, physician productivity reporting, and operational performance measurement preferred.

Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or comparable industry experience with demonstrated technical proficiency required.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 50%, though typical travel is expected to be approximately 25%.
