Position Summary

The Apprentice – Controls is an entry-level role for individuals interested in building a career in HVAC controls and building automation systems. Working under the direction of a Foreman and experienced technicians, this role assists with the installation, testing, and maintenance of controls systems on new construction and retrofit projects. The Apprentice develops technical skills, safety awareness, and industry knowledge necessary for long-term success in controls and automation.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist Foremen and senior technicians with planning, coordination, and execution of controls system installations
  • Support work activities to ensure progress aligns with project schedules and objectives
  • Mount control panels and enclosures and assist with layout and installation activities
  • Bend and install conduit and raceways and pull, label, and terminate wiring using approved methods
  • Install control devices including relays, sensors, current switches, actuators, and related components
  • Assist with testing and startup of installed systems to verify proper operation and performance
  • Learn and apply applicable codes, standards, and best practices related to HVAC controls and building automation
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition
  • Document work performed and report progress, issues, or concerns to supervisors as directed
  • Respond professionally to requests for information or service from internal teams and stakeholders
  • Follow and promote GEMCO’s safety policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project success
