General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

Principle Purpose of Job

  • To kit, prepare, assemble, and build PCB modules, cables, and sub‑assemblies, whether designed in‑house or produced to build‑to‑print specifications.
  • To work accurately from engineering drawings and detailed work instructions.
  • To operate production equipment, including the SMT pick‑and‑place machine line, AOI machine, X-ray / CT Inspection machine, and associated ovens and soldering and wire assembly equipment.
  • To use approved tooling and equipment to carry out required tasks safely and effectively.
  • Support electronic testing activities in accordance with documented test procedures and work instructions, assist with fault finding, basic diagnostics, and rework under supervision.
  • Gain exposure to and understanding of key supporting manufacturing functions, including Stores/Goods Inwards, Planning, Production Engineering, Quality, and Procurement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Documentation: Accurately complete all assembly and rework documentation, ensuring it is correctly stamped and dated to maintain full traceability throughout the build process.
  • Assembly: Assemble PCBs and mechanical assemblies in accordance with predefined programmes, detailed work instructions, and technical drawings, meeting company, and programme standards. All work must achieve the required quality levels with minimal inspection rejects.
  • Test: Safely and correctly handle electronic assemblies and test equipment during testing.
  • Productivity: Complete tasks within specified timeframes and maintain reliable attendance and timekeeping.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and suggest improvements to build methods and processes to enhance productivity.
  • Housekeeping: Adhere to and actively promote 5S housekeeping standards.

Qualifications:

GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, or a recognised equivalent qualification, in Maths, English, and IT.

You will be required to attend SIGTA training centre in Eastbourne on a ‘day-release’ basis to achieve a Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing technician qualification over a four year scheme.
