Department Information

 

The Arabic Flagship is an intensive language program that cultivates professional-level proficiency for students of any major at IU. Requiring long, sustained engagement with language study including both study and internship abroad, the smooth functioning of the necessarily complex administrative aspects that support the program is essential to student success. As a grant-funded program, it requires careful attention to negotiate and fulfill the requirements of both external funders and internal policies.

Job Summary

 

The Program Manager is a key administrative position for the Indiana University Arabic Flagship Program responsible for fulfilling its administrative duties, maintaining compliance with internal and external policies, and managing a small team of student assistants.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Key administrative position for the Indiana University Arabic Flagship Program responsible for fulfilling its administrative duties, maintaining compliance with internal and external policies, and managing a small team of student assistants.
  • Enrolls students in the program and monitoring their performance according to a rubric of benchmarks, planning and implementing co-curricular activities to support student progress in the program, compiling data and writing program reports for external funders, and maintaining alumni relations.
  • Maintains compliance includes following established procedures to purchase supplies, arrange travel, hire and terminate student workers, process honorarium payments, document hospitality requests, and utilize budgeted grant funds for programmatic and scholarship needs.
  • Manages student assistants includes hiring, training, and supervising part-time student workers to complete a variety of program tasks ranging from recruitment to event hosting.

General Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and compiles materials and information for departmental programs.
  • Prepares records of program activities; oversees and ensures the timely processing and delivery of required materials.
  • Reviews the policies and procedures involved in departmental programs; suggests improvements; and ensures that rules comply with university standards.
  • Analyzes data and information generated or produced by program; writes reports and other written materials based on this data.
  • Verifies the accuracy of all data and information used or generated by program; resolves any discrepancies or problems.
  • Responds to requests for program information by staff, students, and faculty; handles any necessary correspondence.
  • Serves as liaison for department; coordinates activities and exchanges information.

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

Working Conditions / Demands

 

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
