JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Superintendent
Responsible To: Superintendent
Basic Function: Under the direction of the District Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent uses highly critical decision-making abilities, plans, develops, organizes, manages, directs, and evaluates internal operations and is responsible for the overall planning, supervision and coordination of district programs. Provide administrative leadership for the district’s overall mission, vision and strategic goals.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Keep abreast of laws, regulations, research and educational developments at the state and national levels. Uses and distributes information as appropriate to performance responsibilities.
- Meet all state and federal mandates relative to responsibilities.
- Coordinate and supervises the work of staff members within the curriculum and instruction department.
- Provide guidance to principals in developing their leadership and in establishing school practices related to student achievement; monitor implementation.
- Work with Director of Business and Finance to create and maintain budgets relative to areas of responsibility.
- Attend Board of Education meetings and prepares appropriate reports for the Board as directed by the Superintendent.
- Coordinate all grants, programs, and affiliations relative to district curriculum, instruction, assessment, and staff development.
- Identify and provide staff development regarding research-based instructional programs to address identified needs.
- Supervise implementation of the Fleming County Schools’ K-12 Curriculum; monitors and provides data to principals and the superintendent.
- Supervise implementation of appropriate classroom assessment; monitors and provides data to principals and superintendent.
- Coordinate appropriate alignment activities among schools and across curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development.
- Serve as the District Assessment Coordinator as described by the Kentucky Department of Education and overseas accountability system as it relates to Fleming County Schools.
- Oversee implementation of the Continuous Improvement Process for the district.
- Coordinate the Comprehensive Improvement Planning Process; direct development of the District Improvement Plan;
- Supervise district staff, as designated by Superintendent.
- Collect, or cause to be collected, data that indicate student achievement needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Kentucky certification for Superintendent.
Master’s degree, (doctoral degree preferred, educational administration)
Minimum three (3) years of teaching and five (5) years as administrator (Central office experience preferred)
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for the evaluation of certified personnel.
