Per VBIESPA Contract
Hours To Work:
8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (7.5 hours per day)
Job Goal(s):
The primary job of the Auto Program Assistant is to assist the three auto instructors with daily skill demonstration,
instruction, and assessment - in general support of the auto programs and students.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Certification required
Certification:
- ASE or Michigan Automotive Technician Certification
Experience:
- Minimum two years of experience in the Auto Industry; previous experience working with high school students is preferred
Skills:
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students
- Good listening and communication skills
- Ability to follow directions and work autonomously
- Strong organizational skills
- Basic familiarity with industry tools and equipment
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to stay calm in a stressful situation
- Familiarity with auto shop tools/machines, settings, and set-up
- Ability to troubleshoot auto issues based on visual inspection
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tools/machines
- Desire to work with both large and small groups of students as a mentor and guide
- Safety Oriented
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the lead instructor with lesson plan implementation and classroom activities.
- Support students in classroom and hands-on learning experiences related to the auto industry.
- Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students needing extra help with academic and technical skills.
- Help prepare materials and equipment for daily class activities and practical demonstrations.
- Monitor and maintain a safe and supportive classroom and lab environment.
- Aid in the supervision of students during clinical practice and fieldwork.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including - record-keeping and classroom management.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren
Board of Education.
