Job Description

Network Cabling Services (NCS) is seeking an experienced AV Field Engineer to install, configure, commission, troubleshoot, and support commercial audiovisual (AV) systems for corporate, healthcare, education, hospitality, government, and data center environments. The ideal candidate has experience with AV integration, video conferencing, digital signal processing (DSP), control systems, and network-based AV technologies.

The AV Field Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Lead Technicians, programmers, and customers to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, commission, and troubleshoot commercial AV systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, floor plans, and engineering drawings.
  • Configure and troubleshoot AV control systems, DSPs, network switches, and AV-over-IP devices.
  • Install and commission:
    • Video conferencing systems
    • Digital displays
    • Projectors
    • LED walls
    • Interactive displays
    • Audio systems
    • Microphones
    • Speakers
    • Matrix switchers
    • Equipment racks
    • Control processors
  • Configure and troubleshoot network-connected AV devices.
  • Test, commission, and verify complete system functionality prior to project turnover.
  • Perform software updates and firmware upgrades on AV equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Provide technical support during system startup and customer acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution.
  • Complete project documentation, punch lists, as-built documentation, and service reports.
  • Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial AV installation, integration, or field engineering experience.
  • Experience installing and commissioning commercial audiovisual systems.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AV signal flow
    • Audio systems
    • Video distribution
    • Video conferencing
    • AV-over-IP technologies
    • Structured cabling
  • Experience working with:
    • Equipment racks
    • DSP programming adjustments
    • Matrix switchers
    • Network switches
    • HDMI distribution
    • Fiber optic infrastructure
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex AV system issues independently.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout Texas as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification preferred.
  • CTS-I certification is a plus.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, PoE, managed switches, and AV-over-IP systems.
  • BICSI certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience working in commercial construction and active construction environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
  • Bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to distinguish wire and cable colors.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Travel to customer locations and project sites is required.

Additional Job Information

  • Candidates must have experience working on commercial AV integration projects. Residential home theater experience alone does not qualify.
  • Experience with structured cabling, low-voltage systems, and commercial construction is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Candidates should possess strong troubleshooting skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality installations while maintaining safe work practices.
