Job description

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

As a Software Development Engineer on the Transaction Posting System (TPS) team, you will help power one of Schwab’s most business-critical platforms, supporting high-volume transaction processing and brokerage operations. This role offers the opportunity to design and build innovative, scalable solutions that directly contribute to platform modernization, cloud adoption, resiliency, and performance optimization initiatives. Working alongside engineers, architects, product owners, and business partners, you will leverage modern engineering practices, distributed systems, and AI-assisted development tools to deliver reliable software that drives meaningful business outcomes.

In this collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will solve complex technical challenges, contribute to cloud-native and event-driven architectures, and support applications that require exceptional stability, scalability, and operational excellence. You will continuously develop your technical expertise while helping shape the future of a platform that enables critical client and business experiences across Schwab.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of software development experience utilizing .NET and C# to design, build, test, and support enterprise applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing scalable solutions using APIs, distributed systems, microservices, or event-driven architectures.
  • 1+ years of experience working with containerized platforms such as Kubernetes, Tanzu, PCF, or similar technologies.
  • 1+ years of experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
  • Experience creating and maintaining unit tests, integration tests, and automated testing practices that improve software quality and reliability.
  • Experience using software delivery and collaboration tools such as GitHub, Jira, Rally, CI/CD pipelines, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience working with messaging technologies such as Kafka, MQ, or similar event-driven platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems through analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, architecture, product, and business teams while communicating complex concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting high-volume transaction processing, financial services, banking, brokerage, or other mission-critical platforms.
  • Experience improving application performance, resiliency, scalability, and operational stability in production environments.
  • Exposure to cloud migration initiatives, cloud-native application development, and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve code quality, testing, documentation, and delivery efficiency.
  • Understanding of Generative AI concepts and responsible application of AI technologies within software engineering workflows.
  • Experience leveraging automation or AI-driven approaches to optimize development processes, system operations, testing, or documentation.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices, vulnerability remediation, and application security principles.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum environments with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing applications using Java.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset, adaptability, and desire to continuously learn emerging technologies and engineering practices.

In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
