Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to support our large-diameter and long-length shafting operations. This role focuses on machining precision shafts and rotating components used in heavy industrial and power-generation applications. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with tight tolerances, complex setups, and heavy components, and takes pride in producing high-quality work in a safety-focused environment.
This position is a key addition to our machine shop as we continue to support increasing workload and upcoming projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up, program (as applicable), and operate CNC lathes for large-capacity shafting and rotating components
Machine large-diameter and long-length shafts, including turning, facing, grooving, threading, and profiling
Perform complex setups using steady rests, follow rests, tailstocks, and fixtures for long shaft support
Maintain tight dimensional tolerances and required surface finishes
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications
Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges)
Work with heavier components using overhead cranes and rigging equipment
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and shop leadership to ensure work meets customer and quality requirements
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all shop safety procedures
Requirements:
5+ years of CNC lathe machining experience, with a strong focus on large-diameter and long-length shafting
Proven ability to hold tight tolerances on critical dimensions and finishes
Experience with complex setups and machining heavier components
Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds, and speeds for large-part machining
Proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques
Comfortable working on new part manufacturing as well as repair and restoration projects
Experience operating overhead cranes and adhering to shop safety standards
Legal authorization to work in the United States
Machine Operators
Operate presses, CNC machines, mills, lathes, or other production equipment.
Risk of injury due to moving parts, pinch points, and high temperatures.
Requires constant attention to prevent serious accidents.
Move heavy or hazardous materials through production areas.
Work near other workers and tight aisles; require visibility and precision.
Use open flame or electrical arc processes (welding, cutting, grinding); risk of burns, sparks, or fume exposure.
Must maintain awareness and PPE compliance at all times.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in job shop, industrial service, or heavy equipment repair environments
Familiarity with power generation, rotating equipment, or large industrial components
Ability to perform basic CNC program edits at the machine
Experience with steady rests, follow rests, and long-shaft support methods
