Job Description
Position Title: Computer Instructional Assistant (Elementary level)
Location: Highlands, Riverside, and Smith
Reports To: Building Principal/Director of Technology/
Job Type: Full-Time- School Year
The Computer Instructional Assistant is a school-year position that integrates comprehensive technical support with dedicated student advocacy. This role manages school-wide technology—including the maintenance and troubleshooting of all staff and student hardware—while collaborating with the Library Instructional Assistant to deliver K–5 Media curriculum, and other innovative planning tools. Beyond technical duties, the Computer Instructional Assistant provides essential academic and behavioral support in 1:1, small group, or whole-class settings. Working under the guidance of teachers and specialized service providers, the Computer Instructional Assistant implements IEP and 504 accommodations, facilitates social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies, and fosters a safe, inclusive, and technologically-enriched environment for all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Elementary Librarian and implement activities with provided instructional guidance from the Elementary Librarian.
- Work collaboratively with the Library Instructional Assistant to select from the guidance to plan for the Media classes with students.
- Facilitate and reinforce student technology proficiency by delivering grade-level instructional technology skills along with digital citizenship and internet safety skills during Media classes
- Support school-wide digital literacy initiatives.
- Updates, maintains, and cleans the building’s inventory of Chromebooks, iPads, and other student devices; manages assignments and issues loaner equipment.
- Performs Level 1 troubleshooting for hardware, software, and connectivity; escalates complex issues to the District Technology Team.
- Manages student databases and resets accounts for educational programs; provides technology support and monitoring during MCAS and other online testing.
- Sets up technology for Professional Development, Cultural Enrichment events, and fundraisers; creates video/slideshow presentations for special events as requested.
- Manages the end-of-year breakdown (storing equipment/displays) and start-of-year deployment (reconnecting carts/classroom technology) to ensure all technology is functional for opening day.
- Support positive behavior strategies and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as directed.
- Reinforce social skills, self-regulation strategies, and emotional support techniques.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment at all times, including during transportation, recess, and other non-classroom activities.
- Respond to crisis situations in alignment with training and district policies.
- Maintain respectful and professional communication with students, staff, and families.
- Participate in relevant training and professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all school and district policies related to student records and privacy.
- Perform duties such as, but not limited to, during arrival/dismissal, breakfast/lunch, and recess times
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to troubleshoot hardware/software.
- Familiarity with Apple/Mac and Google/Chrome preferred
- Ability to support a diverse student population, including individuals with complex physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs. Proficient in implementing differentiated support and following individualized educational frameworks (IEPs/504s) to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
- Willingness to complete required district training (e.g., CPI, first aid/CPR, lifting and transferring).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
- Capable of physically assisting students with mobility challenges, including pushing wheelchairs or assisting with transfers.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including running or repositioning students when needed for safety.
- Visual and auditory ability to monitor students and ensure a safe learning environment.
- Stamina to actively engage with students throughout the school day, including outdoor and physically active settings.
At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
High School/Trade School degree preferred.
