Job description

Beaver Engineering is a family owned Geotechnical Engineering & Materials Testing Company located in Nashville, TN. We are celebrating 50 plus years in business and have a great team. We are looking for a responsible, hard working individual who is interested in becoming a part of our team.

We are currently seeking a field/laboratory technician to work in the Middle Tennessee area. You do not need previous experience. We will train you for the position. If you have previous experience with geology, concrete or soil testing and certifications in HAZMAT or ACI Level 1 concrete testing that would be helpful

This individual will be responsible for performing the following:

  • Field Testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, mortar and grout for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO , DOT and/or project specifications.
  • Transporting & operating a nuclear density gauge
  • Documenting field activities, observation & testing results on various construction projects and their confirmation or deviation from project plans. including fill observation & proof roll tests.
  • Reviewing and understanding construction drawings and specifications in preparation for field observations.
  • Communication of testing results and observations to the Engineering team at Beaver Engineering, contractors and/or clients
  • Classifying soils, Running laboratory testing including grain sizes, permeability and proctors

Qualifications:

Materials testing or construction experience is not necessary. We can train you. However if you have experience and/or certifications, pay will be higher

  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • Previous experience in geotechnical and/or construction materials testing helpful
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • The ability to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs. (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • An understanding of professionalism and tact, relative to interaction with all members of the team, including site laborers, project owners, site superintendents, architects, design engineers, and project managers;
  • A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • The ability to work and maneuver equipment (such as a loaded wheelbarrow) on uneven ground and around active construction sites.
  • A valid drivers license and a good driving record.
  • Hazmat & Level 1 Concrete Testing Certifications may merit higher starting pay.
