Job Description

INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY: Instrumentation Technician Apprenticeship

Are you an experienced electrical tradesperson looking to elevate your technical expertise and expand your career opportunities?  BAE Systems is seeking qualified internal candidates to join the new Instrumentation Technician Apprenticeship Program. This is a premier opportunity for current staff with a strong electrical foundation to transition into a specialized role, mastering the art of instrument calibration, configuration, and process control.

Program Overview
This is a structured, 3-year professional development track designed to bridge the gap between general electrical work and advanced instrumentation. By pairing formal technical training at the Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) with hands-on On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP), you will earn industry-recognized credentials while continuing to earn a full-time wage.

What You Will Learn
Through a combination of hands-on lab instruction at the Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) and on-the-job training, you will master:
  • Calibration & Configuration: Temperature, Pressure, Level, and Flow measurement.
  • System Tuning: Mastering the tuning of process control loops.
  • Hardware Expertise: Relays, Timers, Switches, Analyzers, and Monitors.
  • Advanced Operations: Commissioning and troubleshooting complex process control loops integrated into PLC / DCS control systems.
  • Specialized Work Processes: You will be trained in critical site processes, including Analytical Equipment (pH, ORP, Conductivity, CEMs, TOC), Process Control Instruments, and Valve maintenance (Control, Block, and Solenoid valves).
Training Structure
  • Lab Instruction: Paid company time at RCAM (Kingsport). High-impact, hands-on learning with a 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio.
  • Self-Paced Study: Completion of NCCER textbooks.
  • On-the-Job Training (OJT): 2,000 hours per year at HSAAP, where you will demonstrate competencies to your mentor and Team Leader.
  • Certification: Upon completion, you will receive nationally recognized technician certifications endorsed by the Department of Labor.
Program Benefits
  • Earn While You Learn: Maintain full-time wages throughout the program.
  • Progressive Compensation: Benefit from a wage increases tied to your program milestones.
  • Zero Cost: BAE Systems covers all books, lab instruction, and exam fees.
  • Career Security: A guaranteed pathway to a specialized role within the organization.
