For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking for Data Processing Engineer to support the Data Processing Systems and Applications (DPSA) in the Copernicus missions within EUMETSAT, to support  the Payload Data Processing (PDP) maintenance. The maintenance covers anomaly corrections, evolutions and software release processes, including the necessary coordination with the rest of the Copernicus missions ground segments.

The primary objective of EUMETSAT is to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites and to contribute to the operational monitoring of the climate and the detection of global climate changes. A further objective of EUMETSAT is to provide data, products and support services to the Copernicus information services and user communities, with a focus on marine, atmosphere and climate.

 

         

The position will include tasks such as:

 

  • Contribute to system level engineering activities in the mission payload data processing systems
    • Contribute to investigation and improvements of the relevant sub-system and facility components
    • Contribute to SWETs/ECPs/Technical Notes as required for improvements
    • Contribute to the assessment, impact analysis and preparation of PDP and processors evolutions.
  • Contribute to the setup of a Test Suite within the Automated Test Environment (ATE) for individual processors and for the end-2-end data processing system (as a whole).
  • Contribute to other data processing software engineering tasks as required
  • Provide additional engineering contribution to the other EUM teams (e.g.: SYS/MME) as required.
  • Use of EUMETSAT tools to manage anomalies and changes in the operational systems
  • Investigation, identification and fixing application software and/or configuration problems (anomaly processing activities)
  • Contribute to software and hardware deployment, verification and validation activities
  • Contribute to documentation activities
  • Contribute to the training to the members of the SGS Data Processing and System Applications Competence Area on data processing system aspects

 

Mandatory knowledge, experience and skills required 

 

  • Fluency in English
  • Proven experience with data processing (Level-0, Level-1 and Level-2) of meteorological and/or earth observation products from Satellites instruments
  • Proven experience in the integration, verification and validation (IV&V) of data processing systems and/or processors, including generation of test plan, test specification, procedures and test reports for end-to end processing chains
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and databases (e.g. Perl, Python, shell, PostgreSQL)
  • Proven experience in System Engineer development and system design
  • Demonstrated experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation
  • Practical knowledge in Configuration Control
  • Knowledge in Computer systems, Network systems and IT Security
  • High degree of working autonomy
  • Problem solving
  • Good analytical skills
  • High degree of interpersonal awareness
  • Experience in working as part of a multicultural team

 

Desired Skills

 

  • Knowledge of Spacecraft and/or ground segment operations
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Java and IDL)
