About this role

Digital Foundry at Carrier is looking for a Data Scientist intern who is passionate about creating a healthier and more sustainable world. We are looking for a curious individual to work on pressing challenges facing buildings and cities.

The Data Scientist intern will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop high-priority Machine Learning-enabled product features that improve the lives of our customers. The individual will work across a broad portfolio of Carrier digital products, including Abound Health and Sustainability, a cloud-native platform that unlocks siloed building data to create smarter and more resilient spaces that improve occupant wellness – and Abound Asset Performance. This intelligent asset management platform enables users to optimize equipment health and performance.

The role will work closely with data from sensors installed in buildings that track Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) data and heating, ventilation, and cooling equipment data. The role will focus on predictive and prescriptive data science-enabled product features. This role is for Summer 2024.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with machine learning initiatives as part of the Digital Foundry team.

  • Engage stakeholders across the organization to identify and prioritize projects.

  • Assist with building data science workflows from the ground up using AWS Services

  • Collaborate cross-functionally across different disciplines, including engineering, design, and research.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer science, Statistics, Economics, or a related field. 

  • 3.0 or higher GPA.

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.

  • Experience with AWS with a preference for the following services: SageMaker, S3, Lambda, Neptune, Timestream, and IoT Core.

  • Experience with IaC (node.js), React, Typescript.

  • Experience solving analytical problems through quantitative approaches and machine learning methods, as well as using advanced statistical methods, data mining techniques, and information retrieval. 

  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and AI/ML workflow for guiding initiatives from ideation to production, with quality assurance monitoring.
