Essential Functions / Deliverables
Database Architecture, Design & Development:
- Design relational and distributed database schemas for
scalability, performance, and normalisation - Develop and maintain SQL queries, PL/SQL packages, stored
procedures, views, triggers, and functions - Define and enforce data modelling standards
- Support both OLTP and OLAP environments
Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Perform advanced query tuning, indexing strategies, and
plan analysis - Identify and resolve bottlenecks and slow queries
- Optimize large-volume transactions and reporting
performance across databases - Automate monitoring and alerting of performance
issues
Database Administration and Environment Management:
- Manage deployments, patches, backups, restores, and
upgrades of Oracle/PostgreSQL/MySQL environments - Implement high-availability and failover solutions
- Ensure data security, access controls, and audit
readiness - Assist with replication and
data migration strategies
Backend and Full-Stack Integration:
- Work with backend developers (Dot net core & Dot net framework, Python, Java) to integrate
database logic into applications - Design and consume RESTful APIs to facilitate secure data
exchange - Participate in full-stack development with occasional
involvement in frontend tasks (HTML/CSS/JS)
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Product Managers, and UX teams
- Translate business requirements into technical
specifications - Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint
planning, retrospectives, and demos
Documentation, Standards & Governance:
- Create and maintain technical documentation, ER diagrams,
SOPs, and version history - Promote database best practices, naming conventions, and
change control policies - Contribute to SKO’s internal knowledge base and
technical wiki
Cloud Data Strategy & BI Tool Integration:
- Prototype and recommend cloud-native DB solutions (e.g., AWS
RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL) - Integrate with BI/reporting platforms (SSRS, Power BI,
Metabase) - Develop ETL/ELT data pipelines for analytics initiatives
Continuous Improvement and
Learning
Learning
- Participate in code reviews and peer
learning - Identify skills gaps and seek training opportunities
- Contribute to proof-of-concept initiatives and tech evaluations
- Stay updated on trends in database development, cloud, and automation
