    Description:                   An Educational Aide/Paraprofessional is defined as a school employee who works under the direction of a highly qualified licensed teacher or other licensed school specialist/practitioner. The educational aide/paraprofessional provides a variety of non-teaching classroom support as well as instructional support in one of the two following educational aide/paraprofessional classifications.      
     
    Note:                      The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.
     
    Educational Aide/Paraprofessional Classifications:
    1. Instructional: Duties may include:
    • Working directly with students in academic content areas, under guidance of a licensed teacher
    • Assisting with classroom management
    • Providing instructional support in a library or media center setting
    • Oversee daily operations of a library under the direction of the district media specialist
    • May be assigned limited supervision duties including recess, cafeteria, bus, study hall, etc.
    2.  Special Needs:          Duties may include:
    • Working  with students with IEPs, as directed by special needs teacher responsible for students
    • Assisting  special needs teacher with classroom management issues
    • Providing student specific assistance/support, specified per IEP, and as directed by special needs teacher
    • Assisting other students as directed; however, primary focus is on IEP student to which assigned
    • May be assigned limited supervision duties including recess, cafeteria, bus
    Minimum Qualifications:             
    • Valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit
    • ESEA Qualified (HQT)
    • CPR/First Aide Certified
    • Ability to work with students with special needs
    • Clear BCI/FBI record 
    • Other qualifications assigned by Superintendent or Board of Education
    • Compliance with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
    • Training in behavioral management techniques.

    • Effectively uses verbal, nonverbal, writing, and listening skills.
    • Exhibits consistency, resourcefulness, and resilience.
    • Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students.
    • Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflicts.
    • Completes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters data.
    • Performs prescribed activities efficiently with limited supervision.
    • Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
    • Demonstrates professionalism, maintains confidentiality and contributes to a positive work environment.
    Working Conditions:   Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
    • Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing
    • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment up to 50 pounds
    • Duties may require occasional travel to meetings and work assignments
    • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases
    • Potential for interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals
     
     
    Performance Evaluation:  Job performance is evaluated according to the policy provisions adopted by the Westfall Board of Education.
