Job description

SUMMARY:

The Encoder will complete scanning and data entry, ensure scanning production levels and manual encoding pieces per hour (PPH) production standards are achieved; maintain the encoding station from set up through break down.  Sun.-Thurs. or Mon.-Fri. 11:30am-8:00pm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scan labels; operate a hand or foot activated barcode or optical character reader
  • Enter partial address information if/when a label cannot be scanned
  • Maintain encoding station: conduct initial set up, change labels and break-down at the end of shift
  • Report production or quality issues to Supervisor, Quality Control and/or Lead
  • Duties may include reassignment to alternate operational areas as business needs require
  • Essential duties are not necessarily exhaustive and may be supplemented or otherwise revised by DHL at its sole discretion

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School or equivalent training and/or related experience preferred

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Ability to read English
  • Inspect, examine and observe mail and labels for obvious product defects
  • Understand standardized math processes, e.g., count, addition and subtraction
  • This position is semi-routine work
  • Interface with other employees in the same department on a regular basis


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently stand for full duration of shift in a stationary position to successfully encode the mail and parcels
  • Frequently lift mail and parcels weighing up to 50 pounds out of or large cardboard box up to 60” tall (Gaylords) and position its contents, piece by piece, on to scale
  • Constantly operate a scanner and/or enter data to prepare mail and parcels
  • Recognize and identify and the addresses and zip codes
  • This is a warehouse environment where frequently this position will be exposed to cold, hot and changing temperatures; will constantly experience noise at medium level not damaging or loud enough to require protective equipment; will frequently be exposed to dust, dirt and changes in lighting
