Job description

We are the Application Security Engineering team within the Corporate Operations Group Technology division and keeping the bank secure is at the core of what we do. We design, implement and operate scalable cybersecurity controls with an automation-first mindset. Our engineers operate in an autonomous environment where they are empowered to "do it right", innovate, learn and become masters in their craft.
At Macquarie, our advantage is bringing together diverse people and empowering them to shape all kinds of possibilities. We are a global financial services group operating in 31 markets and with 56 years of unbroken profitability. You’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team where everyone - no matter what role - contributes ideas and drives outcomes.

What role will you play?

In partnership with the Product Manager, you will have end to end responsibility for your Web Application Security Platform. You will be jointly accountable for providing products to meet business need in Web and API security. While the Product Manager works on the “what”, the Engineering Manager handles the “how”, drawing on extensive technical expertise to solve complex cybersecurity problems and minimise risk to hosted applications.

As the Engineering Manager, you combine technical leadership and people management. You will lead a team of engineers to deliver large initiatives and support existing products, providing architectural direction and inspiration. You will manage resourcing: hiring, retaining and developing the talent required to meet platform demand. You will foster and nurture an innovative culture that encourages innovative thinking, understanding of risk while taking a collaborative approach to problem solving.

In this role, you will:
  • Plan, prioritise and deliver on a roadmap agreed with the Product Manager.
  • Break down initiatives, delegate, manage and inspire engineers, while staying hands on.
  • Lead technical staff during cybersecurity and operational incidents.
  • Own reliability and uptime for the platform
  • Engage with the Product Manager and customers, collaborating to balance business demand with available resourcing.
  • Collaborate with Architects and Platform Engineers to innovate, provide direction and help other platforms meet their goals.
  • Work closely with the Director of Engineering for Runtime Security Engineering Platform to ensure delivered solutions meet business requirements, plan future initiatives and make the right priority calls.
  • Understand business and technology risks, completing initiatives and actions to reduce cybersecurity risk.

What you offer

  • Deep understanding of Akamai (CDN, WAF, Bot Protection), Internet-hosting, Cybersecurity, Public Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)
  • An expectation that everything is Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Experience leading technology engineering teams in a fast-paced environment using agile methodologies.
  • Understanding of Web and API security best-practices and the language to communicate them
  • Collaborative and communicative people management skills and an awareness of your leadership shadow.
  • A passion for technology.
