Job description

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range & Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position serves as an Engineering Technician for the Sky Foundry Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Innovation Hub, in the materials area of Non-Destructive Testing - Radiographic Testing (NDT-RT).

Duties

  • Manage the NDT-RT program for the UAS Innovation Hub to ensure regulatory compliance and meet production deadlines.
  • Conduct radiographic and visual inspections on UAS materials to identify defects and determine product acceptance.
  • Perform calibration checks and preventive maintenance on NDT-RT equipment to maintain operational safety standards.
  • Develop NDT-RT training and certification courses in accordance with NAS 410 standards to qualify installation technicians.
  • Execute Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) duties for service contracts to monitor and document contractor performance.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing radiographic (RT) and visual testing on metals, composites, or aviation/aerospace components to identify material defects (such as cracks, voids, or fatigue) under standard operating procedures; 2) Interpreting radiographic (X-ray) data and conducting visual inspections on metals and composites to identify material defects (e.g., fatigue, cracks, fissures) using engineering drawings and specifications.; and 3) Drafting technical inspection reports, quality assurance records, or standard operating instructions for NDT processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
