Job description

Finance Manager

Full-Time.

Prophius is building the future of finance across Africa by empowering businesses to accept payments in a cheap, safe, reliable, and contactless way. Prophius is led by top talented leaders offering a great mix of local and international talents and is built on a culture of innovation and a passion to change the future of finance.

At Prophius, we believe in providing talented people with the environment, resources, and support to do the best work of their lives. We want great people to join us, treat them with genuine respect, and give them the means to succeed.

Job Description

As a Finance Manager at Prophius, you will bring your financial and analytical expertise as a key contributor to our financial operations, owning financial planning, reporting, treasury, and regulatory compliance for the business.

You will use your technical finance skills to support a fast-scaling, regulated payments business, understanding the commercial and regulatory context behind the numbers, identifying financial and compliance risks early, and constantly communicating with diverse internal and external stakeholders while embracing an agile, fast-moving way of working and staying current on regulatory and fintech trends.

You must be comfortable operating with rigour and discipline because accurate, timely, well-controlled financials are what enable the business to move fast with confidence. We deliver for our users and our regulators in equal measure, and finance sits at the centre of that trust.

Responsibilities

  • Own the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in compliance with IFRS and CBN reporting requirements.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting across the business.
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and treasury operations, including settlement, escrow, and reserve accounts.
  • Drive month-end and year-end close, ensuring accuracy of the general ledger, reconciliations, and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with CBN, FIRS, and other regulatory bodies governing fintech and payment operations.
  • Partner with Compliance and Risk to monitor regulatory capital adequacy and AML/CFT financial controls.
  • Design and enforce internal financial controls, segregation of duties, and fraud-prevention measures.
  • Prepare board packs, management accounts, and investor reporting.
  • Support fundraising and investor due diligence, including cap table and data-room management.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory examiners.
  • Act as finance business partner to Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams on pricing and unit economics.
  • Monitor transaction-level revenue recognition and reconciliation across payment rails.
  • Track regulatory capital, licensing fees, and other fintech-specific statutory obligations.
  • Own and evolve finance systems, reporting dashboards, and process automation as the business scales.

An Ideal Candidate Should Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification: ICAN, ACCA, or CPA.
  • 7–10 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including 3+ years in a managerial role.
  • Experience within fintech, banking, payments, or another CBN-regulated financial institution strongly preferred.
  • Strong IFRS knowledge and hands-on experience with CBN regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated treasury and cash/liquidity management experience in a fast-paced, transaction-heavy environment.
  • Working knowledge of financial systems, ERP platforms, and reconciliation/settlement tools.
  • Comfortable operating with high accuracy and sound judgement under regulatory deadlines.
