Job description

Description

Ledgebrook is an InsurTech MGA on a mission to bring Specialty insurance into the modern era. Burdened with legacy technology and processes, the industry has not kept pace with the speed of innovation seen in other sectors. Positioned at the cutting edge of the next generation of InsurTech, Ledgebrook offers the best of both worlds: innovative world-class technology deployed by a leadership team armed with over 100 years of insurance expertise.

Our long-term vision is to become a diversified full stack Specialty re/insurer competing with legacy carriers in product lines & markets across the globe. To get there, Ledgebrook builds its premium base by rolling out a new Specialty product every ~6 months until we prove enough traction to raise a balance sheet, become a full stack carrier and eventually compete in the reinsurance markets. Our initial product is a domestic primary and excess GL E&S policies sourced via wholesale brokers.

At Ledgebrook, everything we do is driven by our culture: Care, Strive, Thrive Together. To succeed in modernizing the industry, we must first succeed in changing the way we do business. Talent density is our north star; fewer, better people working together as one. To that end we’ve replaced all individual incentives with generous equity packages. We play as a team, we win as a team. Everyone benefits handsomely from Ledgebrook’s success.

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented Full Stack Software Engineer to help us solve the complex, technical challenges of a changing insurance landscape. The ideal candidate loves to build, communicates well with team members , and is motivated by a less bureaucracy. This person will be a key member of our engineering team, with direct ownership of many parts of the stack.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to develop new features and enhance existing applications.
  • Design and implement frontend and backend components using JavaScript (Node.js) and Python.
  • Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party services as needed.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Implement automated tests and ensure high code quality through code reviews and continuous integration.
  • Optimize application performance and scalability to handle growing user demands.
  • Dive into using and building LLMs (Large Language Models) to enhance our underwriters' productivity.
  • Debug production issues using the latest tooling.
  • Help set the direction of the small but growing engineering team.

About you

Here at Ledgebrook we are passionate about creating a team that is on a continuous learning journey and that shares our excitement about building a company from the ground up. Some of the characteristics we hold dear are:

  • A passion to deliver a world-class customer service experience to both internal and external customers
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to innovate processes/procedures versus being satisfied with the status quo
  • A desire to continue learning whatever your career stage
  • Agile prioritization skills coupled with a keen sense of urgency that seeks to balance getting it right versus getting it done right now
  • A strong drive and desire to win together as a high-performing team
  • A moral compass to “do the right thing, period”, we have zero tolerance for toxic behaviors.

Requirements

Must haves

  • 3+ years of experience with the full stack development
  • Ability to facilitate and gather business requirements and come up with scalable engineering solutions
  • Strong ability to design data models based on business domain use cases
  • Proven ability to write code for the future, with a strong focus on maintainability and testability
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools using Github Actions, AWS Code Pipelines, Jenkins, or other
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously per the objectives/goals of the organization and execute to deadlines

Nice to haves

  • Prior startup experience
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript
  • Experience solving insurance industry / domain related challenges
  • Experience in web technologies and frameworks (JS/TS, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Angular, React, Bootstrap, Node.js)
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Benefits

  • Full remote flexibility and asynchronous work culture
  • Unlimited PTO and fully paid sick leave
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus HSA and FSA options
  • Additional financial protection and retirement benefits, including a 401(k), company-paid life insurance, and disability coverage
  • A high degree of ownership, autonomy, and the opportunity to help build and shape a growing company
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact while working alongside an ambitious, high-performing team
  • Exposure to the challenges and opportunities of a fast-growing startup environment
