    POSITION TITLE:  Full-Time Paraprofessional (Alternative School)
    HOURS:  9:00 am-4:00 pm (35 Hours Per Week)
    WORK DAYS:  Monday through Friday when school is in session
    WAGE: $18.90 per hour + $2.00 additional per hour for RBT Certification


    PRIMARY FUNCTION:
    Paraprofessionals work directly under the supervision of special education teachers or classroom teachers. All paraprofessionals are responsible to ensure the safety and instruction of students across all activities and locations. Also, paraprofessionals are responsible to maintain complete confidentiality about students and their records. 


    REPORTS TO:
    The Full-Time Paraprofessional reports directly to the building administrator or their designee and the TOR.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 48 hours of earned college credit or
    • Passed the ParaPro assessment
    • Registered Behavior Technician Certification preferred 


    The Alternative Education Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting a safe, structured, and student-centered learning environment for students in grades 6�12. The program serves both general education and special education students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Under the direction of certified teachers and administrators, the paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and organizational support to help students achieve academic success and develop positive school behaviors.

    Essential Performance Responsibilities

    • Assist certified teachers with the implementation of daily instructional activities for individual students and small groups.
    • Provide academic support in core content areas by reinforcing teacher-directed instruction and helping students remain engaged in learning.
    • Support students in completing assignments, projects, assessments, and credit recovery coursework.
    • Monitor student progress and communicate observations regarding academic performance, behavior, attendance, and engagement to teachers and administrators.
    • Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and accommodations as directed by certified staff.
    • Utilize positive behavior intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques to promote appropriate student behavior and maintain a safe learning environment.
    • Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining consistent expectations and professional boundaries.
    • Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
    • Assist in monitoring student attendance and encouraging regular participation and engagement.
    • Help maintain an orderly, organized, and welcoming classroom environment conducive to learning.
    • Support teachers in preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, and maintaining student records as assigned.
    • Encourage students to develop self-advocacy, organization, time management, and independent learning skills.
    • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, school counselors, social workers, and related service providers to support student success.
    • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training related to instructional practices, behavior supports, safety procedures, and trauma-informed practices.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and Lafayette School Corporation policies.
    • Assist with crisis response procedures and student supervision during emergencies as directed.
    • Promote a culture of respect, accountability, inclusion, and high expectations for all students.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, building administrator, or district administration.
