$18.90 per hour

Hours:

This is a part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) with hours determined by assigned class schedules and program needs.

 

 

The Group Fitness Instructor may support a variety of formats based on operational needs. At this time, we are specifically seeking Mat and/or Reformer Pilates Group Instructors.

Availability for both is preferred.

Job Summary:

  This position is responsible for preparing, performing, and leading

safe, enjoyable, and effective group exercise classes within the Titan Student Recreation Center (SRC). Classes are composed of students, faculty, and staff of California State University Fullerton (CSUF) and CSUF auxiliary organizations on the CSUF campus. The instructor will serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness and wellness and is responsible for ensuring the

uncompromised safety of all class members, regardless of the members’ fitness level(s) and/or experience. This position will receive direction, guidance, and class assignments as appropriate by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator of Titan Student Recreation

Center (SRC).

 

** Note: As part of the selection process, candidates will participate in a Teaching Audition to demonstrate their instructional approach and engagement style.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead fitness classes by demonstrating each exercise, performing the workout/routine along with the participants, incorporating use of cueing, tempo, safe transitional movements from one exercise to another, and any necessary modifications for participants.
  • Instruct group exercise format according to class schedule and adhere to company standards.
  • Properly prepare for each class by choosing appropriate and relevant music (sound system will be provided), rehearsing

the workout template, and preparing the studio layout prior to teaching each class.

  • Conduct necessary prep, set-up and post class duties
  • Engage all participants in group fitness classes in a safe, fun, and progressive manner.
  • Maintain productive, professional, and collaborative relationships with fellow instructors and co-workers.
  • Educate participants on proper form, anatomy, and modification of movements when needed.
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and proper usage of exercise equipment used during class.
  • Monitor any equipment use and ensure equipment/supplies are returned at end of class.
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance.
  • Classes offered: Zumba, Yoga, Spin/Cycle, Barre, Guts, Butts & Thighs, variety of dance and martial arts
  • Other duties as assigned

Customer Service & Collaboration:

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments

Safety:

  • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff

and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the

   

 

 

Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies.

  • Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party or supervisor immediately

Requirements:

Must be a currently enrolled California State University Fullerton student in good academic standing

Trainings:

  • Must complete:
    • Bloodborne Pathogens
    • Campus Health and Safety Requirements
    • CSU’S Discrimination Harassment Prevention Program
    • Data Security and FERPA
    • Gender Equity and Title IX
    • Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
    • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of hire

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain related to walking, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Many functions of the work pose high degree of hazard uncertainty.
  • Continuous use of motor skills
