High Needs Paraeducator Resource Support Program (One-on-One)

DESCRIPTION: Work under the supervision of certificated staff in the resource classroom to provide instructional or other appropriate services, working one-on-one with assigned student.

REQUIREMENTS: Must meet the following requirements to move forward in the screening process:
Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
   (a) Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment; or
   (b) Hold an associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
   (c) Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
   (d) Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Applicable AA degree or equivalent work experience and/or training preferred.
3. Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.
4. Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
5. Ability to utilize appropriate strategies and techniques to provide effective instructional support.
6. Work Skills Assessments:  Achieve minimum acceptable levels/scores in reading, writing, math and technology assessments.
7. First Aid/CPR Certified.

PERFORMANCE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assisting students with toileting including catheterization
2. Feedings, oral and tube feeding (excluding the non-oral administration of medication)
3. Suctioning
4. Transferring non-ambulatory students
5. Physical restraint in accordance with the aversive therapy plan.
6. Work with students individually or in small groups in a variety of content areas/subjects.
7. Assist staff, as appropriate, in the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and student progress.
8. Assist in student supervision and discipline.
9. File papers, run errands, operate duplication machines, attendance, minor clerical duties.
10. Lead group discussions.
11. Work with students individually or in small groups in a variety of content areas/subjects
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
13. Upon completion of required District training, serve as a Parent Designated Adult (PDA), when assigned, to support eligible students in accordance with Washington State law, District procedures, and individual student plans.
14. Diabetic health plan management (with evidence of completion of PDA training)

PREFERRED candidates will have experience working with students in a school classroom setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work Year       180 days per year plus paid holidays that fall within the school year
Hours              6.5 hours paid per day plus half-hour unpaid duty free lunch
Schedule         8:40 am - 3:40 pm 
Salary             2025-26 PSE Salary Schedule A*
                       High Needs Paraeducator I ($26.35 - $29.14 DOE)
                       High Needs Paraeducator III* ($29.46 - $31.52 DOE)

*This Position will be paid at the 2026-27 PSE Salary Schedule

* Higher pay rate for:
Satisfactory completion of Educational Para-Professional Apprenticeship Program or 
Accredited AA Degree (official transcripts are required) or
Seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits (official transcripts are required) at 100 level or above

Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to work during the school year (September 1 through August 31). Employees anticipated to work 630 hours or more in a year are eligible for the following benefits: medical, dental, vision, retirement, life insurance, long-term disability and the employee assistance program.
