Job Summary
The Position:
Experienced teachers are hired as “Certificated Contracted Consultants” to assist districts and charter schools throughout the county of Los Angeles in providing mentor services. Mentors work with teachers (candidates) who hold preliminary teaching credentials and are working to clear their credentials through the Induction Pathway. LACOE mentors guide candidates through the Induction process of planning, analyzing, and reflecting to further their teaching practice and clear their preliminary credential.
Supervision Received:
Direction and supervision are provided by a Coordinator, with guidance from the Director.
Examples of Duties:
* Conduct weekly hour-long meetings with the assigned Induction candidate virtually and in-person.
* Participate in mandatory “Mentor Forums” (online and/or face-to-face) – seven (7) per year. Mentor Forums are opportunities to develop your craft as a mentor, collaborate with other mentors regarding best practices, and set and reflect upon your own personal mentoring goals.
* Provide and coordinate targeted collaborative support/mentoring to the assigned candidate(s)and develop effective teaching practices, for no less than one hour per week, over the course of the school year, with meetings taking place face-to-face and virtually.
* Observe each assigned candidate performing a direct instruction lesson taught in his/her classroom up to twice per school year.
* Guide and engage in reflective conversations with each candidate to develop an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), based on needs determined by collaborative discussions between the mentor, candidate, and administrator, and informed by their Individual Induction and Transition Plans.
* Provide “just in time” support to candidates, in accordance with the candidate’s ILP, along with ongoing guidance to promote enduring professional skills, using the program tools.
* Provide timely formal and informal feedback to each candidate about their progres

Other Requirements:
* Confirm availability to complete an additional 10 hours of required New Mentor Training throughout the year
* Working knowledge of Google Drive, Zoom, and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas (experience with Canvas preferred)
* Knowledge of new teacher development.
* Knowledge of the state-adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students, state-adopted curriculum frameworks, and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs).
* Ability to model best teaching practices.
* Availability and willingness to participate in mandatory professional training to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective mentor.
* Ability to demonstrate professional integrity and respect the confidentiality of candidate(s).
* Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills and willingness to provide both professional and emotional support to beginning teachers.
* Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and learning.
* Access to a computer that is connected to Wi-Fi.
* Ability to travel to the candidate’s school twice a year for in-person observations.

Requirements / Qualifications
The applicant must have at least three years of teaching experience (on a valid Clear Credential) with recommendations/references. Applicants must possess one of the credentials/authorizations below in order to be eligible for the position:
