Savannah Technical College seeks a full-time Instructor for the Basic Law Enforcement Program. This individual will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to complete the Basic Law Enforcement Certification Technical Certificate of Credit.
Responsibilities (this list is not intended to be exhaustive)
Instructing students, developing program syllabi, goals and objectives;
Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives;
Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate;
Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports;
Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom and lab environment;
Working diligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields;
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or in a related field with 10 graduate hours in Criminal Justice or related law enforcement experience.
Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) Instructor Certification (in good standing).
Three (3) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
Proven experience in maintaining lesson plans and course notebooks that reflect current curriculum.
Ability to use a variety of teaching methods to facilitate adult learning and provide educational assistance to individual students as needed.
Knowledge of current trends and conditions of local business and industry.
Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement programs.
Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
Preferred Qualifications
Georgia P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor, EVOC, Defensive Tactics Certification and other high liability certifications strongly preferred.
Teaching experience in a college or university strongly preferred
Physical Demands
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office/laboratory environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
