Whether your background is in software engineering, AI, machine learning, or technology innovation, you'll have the opportunity to bring real-world industry experience into the classroom and help students build practical, job-ready skills.

This contract position involves teaching Introduction to Machine Learning every Monday throughout the term, combining hands-on instruction with real-world examples and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

What You'll Teach

This course introduces students to one of today's fastest-growing areas of technology by providing a practical foundation in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Rather than focusing exclusively on theory, students learn how machine learning models are built, trained, evaluated, and applied to solve real business problems.

Using Python and industry-standard machine learning libraries, students gain hands-on experience preparing datasets, developing predictive models, and evaluating model performance while learning how organizations leverage AI to make data-driven decisions.

Key learning areas include:

  • Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Supervised and unsupervised learning
  • Data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing
  • Feature engineering and dataset preparation
  • Regression and classification algorithms
  • Clustering techniques
  • Model training, validation, and evaluation
  • Overfitting, bias, variance, and model optimization
  • Decision Trees, k-Nearest Neighbours, Naïve Bayes, and introductory Neural Networks
  • Practical implementation using Python, Scikit-learn, Pandas, and Jupyter Notebook
  • Ethical considerations and responsible AI

Students complete several machine learning projects using real-world datasets, developing practical AI skills that can be applied across business and technology environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of industry and/or post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming.
  • Experience with Python and machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or similar tools.
  • Experience teaching adult learners or international students is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and classroom facilitation skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in an engaging and accessible manner.

Preferred Experience

  • Software development experience in an industry setting.
  • Experience with collaborative software development.
  • Knowledge of AI and data science applications in business or technology.
  • Experience developing project-based learning activities.

  • Collaborate with the Academic Department to ensure high-quality program delivery.

Qualifications
