Position Title: Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer
Reports to: Structural Engineering Manager
Based at: Edmonton, AB
Position Purpose: Working closely with the project team on various projects, and supporting the technical capability and production requirements of the projects. Provides exceptional customer service and coordination assistance with internal and external project partners (consultants, contractors, etc.).
The structural team in Edmonton is looking for a professional structural engineer with experience in consulting engineering specifically related to building design. Here at Williams Engineering we work on a variety of different types of projects in a various locations across Alberta, BC and the North. Experience with various construction materials including steel, wood, concrete and masonry in a variety of climatic conditions would be considered an asset in this position. Our clients are as diverse as our projects and include architects, owners, contractors and developers, which require strong communication skills in order to adapt to specific client’s needs.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with the Team lead/ Project Manager/ Engineering Manager in providing our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with the Project Manager; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior teammates, this includes reviewing reports and ensuring technical standards are met.
- Share expertise and collaborate with other offices.
- Act as client contact and develop client relationships.
- Support and improve quality control processes.
- Identify risks associated with a project at the proposal stage; satisfy client and our requirements with regard to risk management.
- Accurately apply codes and regulations.
- Write technical reports not requiring significant editing.
- Evaluating existing facilities and structures.
- Work to solve interdisciplinary design conflicts.
- Manage, review and/or provide input for engineering cost proposals.
- Develop appropriate load criteria and design basis for complex projects.
- Independently develop structural layouts and design of small scale structures and renovation projects.
- Independently review structural systems to satisfy architectural and other service line/discipline requirements.
- Review and mark up complex drawings.
- Operate independently on routine projects and oversee work plans and procedures on routine projects.
- Stamp project drawings, designs, and reports and that of engineers in training for whom you are providing peer review as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- May hold a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering.
- P.Eng. Status with appropriate provincial association.
- 5+ Years of experience
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.

- Strong hands-on working knowledge and experience with structural engineering analysis software, preferably Sframe and/or SAP.
- Ability to coordinate with all Service Lines (including mechanical, electrical, building science and sustainability), extract and relay relevant information for complex projects.
