The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program on the campus of Sac State is seeking to hire seven student assistants for the MESA Mentor program. Peer Mentors provide one-on-one peer support, guidance, & motivation to new MESA students throughout the academic year. Peer Mentors serve as a key resource for students by sharing their experiences, exposure, and knowledge about how to be a successful college student and strategies for eliminating barriers to academic, personal, and professional success.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript), DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

Prerequisites |
Must be a Sac State student enrolled in at least six-semester units (undergrad) or four-semester units (graduate) students.

Work Schedule |
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 6 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule |
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

Physical Requirements |
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work is performed in an office environment.

Summary
The MESA Program supports educationally disadvantaged students to attain four-year degrees in engineering or computer science. The program establishes a peer community for its students, most of whom are first in their family to go to college. Rigorous academics, leadership preparation, and collaborative problem-solving training produce highly-skilled graduates who meet STEM industry’s workforce needs.
The MESA Engineering Program, is a statewide network of related programs coordinated through the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA). MESA is an academic support department within the College of Engineering and Computer Science. MESA helps students develop personally and professionally in preparation for the corporate world. MESA creates a family-like culture where students feel supported in their academic careers.
