Job Description

As a Java Developer, API Integrations and
Payments, you will build and maintain payment provider integrations that
support high volume transaction systems. You will work on the systems that
connect merchants, payment methods, and PSPs to PaymentIQ, and help ensure that
money keeps moving reliably.

About PaymentIQ

PaymentIQ builds the payments infrastructure
behind online gaming and ecommerce platforms across Europe. The platform is
designed to help merchants manage, optimize and scale payment flows across
providers and markets through a single integration. There are more than 260
payment service providers connected through the platform, while internally the
ecosystem includes 300 plus PSPs and 600 merchants, which reflects the scale
and complexity of the platform.

This is a backend role for engineers who want
to work close to transaction flows, provider APIs, production issues, and
delivery deadlines. You will not be joining a greenfield team. You will work in
a legacy heavy environment where careful engineering, clear communication, and
strong ownership matter every day.

The role

This role combines engineering with operational
responsibility. Based on the team discussion, the work is roughly split into 50
percent incidents and support, 30 percent new integrations, and 20 percent
improvements and technical debt. That means success in this role is not just
about writing code. It is also about staying calm under pressure, debugging
live issues, reading documentation carefully, and making safe decisions in
systems where mistakes can break transaction flows.

You will work directly with third party APIs,
provider documentation, callbacks, certifications, upgrades, and production
troubleshooting. You will also contribute to abstraction layers that make
different payment methods behave consistently across the platform.

What you will do

  • Build
and maintain payment provider integrations that handle high transaction volumes

  • Own
incident response and support for payment flows across multiple PSPs and
    merchants

  • Design
and improve abstraction layers that make diverse payment methods behave
    consistently

  • Work
with third party APIs, callbacks, provider upgrades, and certification
    processes

  • Debug
production issues across complex transaction flows and legacy systems

  • Deliver
new integrations under tight client deadlines where go live timing matters

  • Contribute
to technical improvements that reduce recurring issues and strengthen the
    platform over time

  • Read
requirements and documentation thoroughly before implementation and translate
    them into maintainable solution

  • Engineering
    environment

·      Backend:
Java 17 and Java 21, Spring Boot, CI/CD pipelines are standardized across teams

·      Infrastructure and tooling: Kafka, OpenSearch, SQL, Rest JSON, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Linux

·      Frontend: React with TypeScript

Team and leadership

You will be part of the Payment Rails
organisation led by Dmytro Mahats. His teams operate in an external
facing environment with a high level of coordination across merchants, PSPs,
product, and engineering. The work sits close to the business and close to
production, so delivery, stability, and communication all matter.

Dmytro leads cross functional engineering teams
focused on payment orchestration and high volume transaction systems. He
combines a strong delivery focus with team development and works closely with
product to align engineering work with business outcomes. His teams work in a
dynamic environment where priorities shift, deadlines matter, and systems must
remain stable under load.

Girish Patil leads the Generic Payments team. This team
focuses on the abstraction layer that helps payment methods behave consistently
across providers. It currently includes 3 developers and 2 QA automation
specialists. The QA setup is centered on a regression framework that validates
the end to end payment journey, from opening the payment page through to the
completed transaction.

Ciprian Teisanu leads the Provider Integrations team. This
team is focused on API integrations with PSPs, implementing and maintaining
provider connections, and managing the ongoing changes that come with real
payment ecosystems. The team currently includes 8 developers and is still
growing. It also works closely with 2 Product Owners, who are closer to the
developers and backlog refinement, and 2 Product Managers, who work more
closely with the PSP side and external documentation.

How the team works

The environment is practical, fast moving, and
collaborative. Teams work closely with product and external stakeholders.
Documentation matters. Care matters. Engineers are expected to think beyond the
ticket, understand the wider flow, and take responsibility for the quality of
the outcome.

This is a good fit for someone who likes
complex backend work, understands that real engineering often includes
production support, and wants to contribute to systems that are critical to
clients and revenue.
