Role Overview

We're seeking a Java Engineer to join our Firm Market Risk Technology team. In this role, you will develop and enhance the Firm's Market Risk Platform.

This is a hands-on Software Engineering role. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time designing, building, and optimizing Java-based systems while also providing technical expertise within the squad.

The Firm Market Risk Technology Team develops software to measure and monitor Market Risk and Capital for the firm's global portfolio. We are responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions that calculate the firm's market risk exposure. Our systems support large-scale simulations and analytics that estimate potential losses across multiple time horizons. We work closely with Risk Managers, Market Risk Analytics teams, senior management, and regulatory stakeholders globally. The Market Risk Technology team continually evolves its suite of risk management tools, frameworks, and processes, while also building new solutions to meet an ever-changing business and regulatory landscape.

  • Implement scalable, high-performance computing solutions for market risk calculations and analytics capabilities.
  • Leverage AI tools to support agentic and analytical workflows while maintaining rigorous standards for solution quality, accuracy, and correctness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and global counterparts to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Work in an Agile development environment, ensuring timely and efficient product delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers within the squad.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and scripting.
  • Experience with relational and/or document-oriented databases.
  • Ability to translate business and analytical requirements into efficient technical solutions. Deep Market Risk domain expertise is not required upfront and can be developed on the job through close partnership with Risk and Analytics teams.
  • Ability to guide junior staff, influence technical direction, and manage multiple initiatives in parallel.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience building large-scale, production-grade systems, with demonstrated expertise in Java-based backend development and distributed system design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Soft Skills & Respnsibilities:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and drive projects independently.
  • Ability to align technology solutions with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
