Job description

Position Overview – Lead Behavior Technician

At AccessPoint RI, we believe every individual deserves the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, develop lifelong skills, and actively participate in their community. We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Lead Behavior Technician to help lead our GAP (Growing Adult Potential) program while empowering young adults with autism to achieve greater independence and success.

As the Lead Behavior Technician, you will serve as both a mentor and a direct support professional, providing guidance to Behavior Technicians while ensuring the consistent implementation of high-quality, person-centered services. Working closely with program director and multidisciplinary teams, you will oversee the delivery of Individualized Support Plans (ISPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), model evidence-based interventions, and help create an environment where participants can thrive.

This is a dynamic leadership role that combines hands-on support with coaching, problem-solving, and program coordination. You will assist in training staff, monitor service quality, provide behavioral guidance, and ensure participants receive consistent support across center-based, community, and vocational settings. Whether you're helping a participant master a new life skill, supporting a successful community outing, or mentoring team members to provide exceptional care, your leadership will have a lasting impact on both participants and staff.

If you are passionate about developing others, fostering positive behavioral outcomes, and creating opportunities for individuals to live more independent and fulfilling lives, we invite you to join a team where your leadership truly makes a difference—every single day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to DSP staff regarding program routines, daily procedures, and participant supports.

  • Model person-centered practices and positive interactions with participants.

  • Assist with onboarding and orienting new DSP staff to the GAP program’s routines and expectations.

  • Support implementation of participant goals and complete required documentation and data collection.

  • Communicate participant updates, concerns, and operational needs to the Program Director.

  • Help prepare materials, organize supplies, and maintain program spaces as needed.

  • Provide additional support and continuity when the Program Director is engaged in administrative or program development responsibilities.

  • Engage in work that aligns with the agency’s mission to help individuals with disabilities reach their fullest potential

  • Implement treatment and behavior support plans as developed by the clinician

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to client needs to ensure safety and promote positive outcomes

  • Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, state regulations, and relevant laws

  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members

  • Demonstrate reliability through punctual attendance at scheduled sessions, meetings, training, and supervision

  • Maintain professional boundaries and positive working relationships with families

  • Uphold high ethical standards, including strict confidentiality of client information

  • Collect, record, and maintain data and documentation as assigned

Perform additional duties as directed by a supervisor

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Behavior Technician Training provided by AccessPoint.

  • Minimum age of 19 with a high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience working with individuals with special health care needs and/or a college degree is preferred.

  • Ability to pass all required background checks.

Special Qualifications

  1. Current CPR certification or willing to become current

  2. A valid driver’s license

  3. Willingness to operate AccessPoint RI vehicles and/or provide transportation to clients as needed

Physical Demands and Safety Requirements:

This position involves active engagement and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all clients. As an essential function of the position, candidates must be able to ensure the safety and protection of individuals at all times and have the ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, and move quickly, including running when necessary. The role requires engaging in physical activity to support, guide, and redirect clients as needed. Candidates must also be able to lift or assist clients, when necessary, as well as provide toileting assistance, including support with bathroom routines, diapering, clothing changes, and hygiene maintenance. Maintaining alertness and responsiveness to ensure client safety across various settings is essential.
