Lead Java Engineer

Intellias is partnering with a Fortune 100, Midwest-based industrial manufacturer to modernize and expand a suite of cloud-based services and data products used by a global network of dealers, enterprise customers, and internal business units. Our cross-functional teams deliver scalable APIs, event-driven services, and analytics pipelines that power quoting, ordering, asset telemetry, diagnostics, and lifecycle support for heavy equipment in the field.

• Provide technical leadership across the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of a scalable AWS-hosted digital platform.
• Lead the delivery of complex applications, platform components, and business-critical functionality within cross-functional teams.
• Independently own complex software, system, and infrastructure assignments, coordinating dependencies and priorities with relevant stakeholders.
• Guide development and support teams by providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and promoting knowledge sharing.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical and production issues, including occasional off-hours or weekend support.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, development practices, quality controls, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Ensure software quality through sound architecture, code reviews, automated testing, debugging, integration testing, and customer acceptance testing.
• Collaborate with end users, customers, dealers, business stakeholders, and internal teams to clarify requirements and align development priorities.
• Evaluate technologies, tools, platforms, and architectural approaches, providing recommendations based on business and technical needs.
• Promote enterprise standards, reusable components, engineering best practices, and scalable architectural solutions across applications.
• Identify technical and process improvement opportunities and help strengthen the overall capabilities of the engineering team.
• Define work plans, evaluate solution options, and determine the most appropriate approach for broadly defined and complex assignments.

Mandatory

• 8+ years of professional software development experience and designing Java applications
• Deep domain knowledge of telematics platforms and solutions.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services such as API Gateway, Application Load Balancer, Network Load Balancer, Fargate, Lambda, Amazon S3, and CloudWatch.
• Experience with messaging, event-streaming, and queuing technologies such as AWS Kinesis, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache ActiveMQ, or Azure Event Hubs.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis.
• Strong understanding of application architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architecture, and MVC.
• Experience designing well-defined RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with API development and testing tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, or Assertible.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GoCD, or similar technologies.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, including guiding engineering teams, coordinating development activities, and mentoring junior developers.
• Proven experience delivering business-critical functionality within medium- to large-scale projects.
• Strong experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining complex software applications and distributed systems.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software design principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical and application issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with end users, internal customers, external customers, dealers, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to provide 6 hours overlap with US Central Time (CT) on business days (till 2 pm CT latest)
• On-call support: Willingness to provide off-hours or weekend production support when required.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining highly scalable software systems, including a strong understanding of concurrency.
• Expertise in developing and debugging multithreaded applications.
• Hands-on experience with Cucumber or similar testing frameworks and their integration into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience using unit testing and mocking frameworks.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments, preferably Scrum.
• Demonstrated leadership on medium- to large-scale initiatives affecting strategic business priorities.
