
Manager/Senior Manager, Professional Practice Group /Practice Support Advisor [Western Region: 18 -24 month secondment]

Doane Grant Thornton’s Professional Practice Group (PPG) is responsible for fostering a high level of standards relating to the firm’s policies, interpretations, applications and tools for accounting and assurance services, financial reporting, risk management and regulatory matters.
Reporting to the Practice Support Director – West, the Practice Support Advisor - West is an integral part of a vibrant and energetic team of professionals, dedicated to teaming and working directly with practitioners in our business units and with external clients on complex accounting and assurance matters, risk management matters and matters related to professional standards and firm policies. This role is a 60-100% secondment opportunity for approximately 18 to 24 months. The candidate can be located in any business unit of the firm in Western Canada. At the end of the secondment term, PPG, the Business Unit and the successful candidate will assess whether to extend the candidate’s secondment or return to their Business Unit.

As a Manager/Senior Manager – Practice Support Group/Practice Support Advisor [Western Region] your responsibilities will include:
· Working with the practice support team to provide timely, practical, solutions-oriented, technically sound and objective guidance to internal engagement teams on the application of professional standards and firm policies when non-routine, complex, and other high-risk professional services matters are encountered.
· Supporting engagement teams in the performance of formal and informal consultations, including providing guidance to teams on the preparation of formal consultation documentation and application of accounting/assurance standards including performing detailed review of consultation documentation.
· Developing and maintaining client relationships with external clients and internal Doane Grant Thornton colleagues.
· Assisting with the delivery of specific risk management orientated internal professional development programs.
· Supporting engagement teams through the execution of complex engagement support which may include executing/review or leading specific areas of the engagement, assisting engagement teams with formal consultation documentation or other defined roles to directly support engagement quality.
· Promoting and reinforcing the implementation of changes in professional standards and firm policies.
· Supporting engagement teams in responding to/remediating findings from internal (PEER) and external regulatory reviews.
· Collaborating with colleagues in all functional lines of the Professional Practice Group including Practice Support, National Quality, Accounting Services, Assurance Services and Independence and Ethics on various risk management matters and projects when required.

· Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
· Experienced Manager/Senior Manager in Assurance or IBG, proficient in leading audit and/or review engagements
· Proven accounting expertise, depth and experience in some of the Canadian Accounting frameworks such as ASPE, ASNPO, PSAS or IFRS with top-notch technical and analytical skills
· Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
· Proven relationship and collaborative working skills
· Outstanding organizational and time/project management abilities
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Demonstrated commitment to quality
· Willingness to learn and stretch your skill set
