Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works location.  The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership, development, optimization, and automation of welding and laser-based manufacturing processes supporting gas turbine component manufacturing and repair operations. This position operates with limited supervision, provides technical authority for assigned component families and welding processes, mentors engineering and production personnel, and leads the implementation of complex process improvements.

This role focuses on manual GTAW (TIG) welding, robotic welding, gantry-based automated welding, manual laser welding, laser ablation, and emerging automated joining technologies, with a primary objective of transforming welding operations into highly automated, repeatable, and data-driven manufacturing systems. The engineer is responsible for establishing and deploying best practices from OSC, TGO, equipment OEMs, and industry benchmarks while identifying and eliminating process risks impacting first-pass yield, hidden rework, weld quality variation, operator dependency, and production throughput. The position leads the development of future-state manufacturing processes incorporating automation, robotic integration, adaptive process controls, automated weld parameter management, laser processing technologies, and digital manufacturing systems to improve safety, quality, throughput, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of welding, laser processing, and automated manufacturing processes, including manual and robotic welding, gantry automation, laser welding, and laser ablation.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for welding process capability, manufacturing readiness, process control, and automation strategy.
  • Develop and deploy manufacturing best practices, standards, specifications, procedures, and lessons learned to ensure consistent, repeatable, and high-quality production.
  • Own and govern manufacturing programs, process data, DNC/MDC systems, and change management processes to ensure validation, traceability, revision control, backup, and compliance.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance and identify opportunities to improve quality, yield, cycle time, automation, process robustness, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop automation roadmaps and integrated manufacturing solutions that reduce manual intervention, enhance repeatability, and support future manufacturing technologies.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Automation, Tooling, OEMs, suppliers, and integrators to resolve technical challenges and implement automated welding and laser processing solutions.
  • Define functional requirements for machine integration, controls, manufacturing data collection, process monitoring, adaptive controls, and MES connectivity.
  • Lead equipment acceptance, commissioning, capability validation, and production ramp-up activities.
  • Mentor engineers and production personnel while providing technical leadership and guidance to support business and operational objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting advanced welding, joining, and laser processing operations, including GTAW (TIG), robotic welding, gantry welding systems, laser welding, and laser ablation.
  • Proven experience leading process development, automation projects, capital equipment implementation, OEM collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong track record of using manufacturing data to improve quality, yield, productivity, process capability, and automation performance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient with welding and robotic programming software, laser systems, CAD/CAM tools, simulation software, SPC/data analysis tools, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing systems such as SAP, MES, SCADA, Windchill, DNC/MDC, and machine monitoring platforms.
  • Experience with industrial automation, controls integration, manufacturing data collection, and equipment connectivity is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to suppliers, equipment providers, manufacturing facilities, and parent company locations.

Why Should You Apply?

  • Excellent Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision & 401K Matching).
  • Excellent development programs and advancement opportunities.
  • Tuition reimbursement and on-the-job training.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Committed to quality products and services.
  • Great working environment and culture.
  • Employee Appreciation Programs and Event.
