Job Description

General Description

 The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will play a critical role in supporting the engineering team within the manufacturing plant. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Skill/Effort Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their selection
  • Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as well as engineering drafting practices and related technical standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

Design and Development:

  • Review customer drawings and determine tooling requirements to manufacturability.
  • Redesign and improvement of existing tools as required.
  • Work in conjunction with manufacturing engineers, product engineers, CNC programmers, and machinists to ensure designed tools meet original requirements and end user's needs
  • Follow principles of design for safety, cost and quality as well as principles of design for ergonomics, manufacturability, assembly, maintainability and minimum risk.
  • Support manufacturing process improvements through innovative design input on new tooling and modification of existing tooling.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.


Project Management:

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders.


Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all mechanical systems and processes comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Participate in safety training and promote a culture of safety within the plant.
