Position Summary

Seattle Colleges is looking for innovative and dedicated faculty members, who have a demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds. Faculty will teach part-time in a wide range of on-site Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Program courses. Successful applicants will have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding in an urban environment.  
 
Specific teaching assignments will be dependent on the instructor's background and scheduling. Successful applicants may be invited to teach at the Wood Technology Center at Seattle Central College.

Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs. 

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle. 

The salary range for part-time faculty is (generally P1: A1- E7): $7,703 - $11,537.33 (for a 5-credit single-class workload per quarter). Target start rate of pay is $7,703 - $8,912 (for a 5-credit single-class workload per quarter) A1-C3

What you will be working on:

  • An understanding of the goals and role of the community college. 
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teach multiple levels of on the topic of study. 
  • Teaching assignment(s) include any of the curriculum approved courses within the pre-apprenticeship construction program such as construction training, blueprint reading, construction tools and materials, nutrition and fitness, construction job readiness.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Standard duties of all part-time faculty as outlined in the AFT Seattle Colleges agreement, including, but not limited to, evaluation and assessment of student work, timely submission of grades, student, and administrative evaluations.
  • Innovative teaching methods including the use of technology and collaborative learning. 
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional setting.
