Job description

Work Schedule

Mon-Fri: 8:00am-5:00pm

PathGroup is seeking an AP/CP Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Pathologist to join our collegial and growing team serving an extensive regional health system in East Texas. This is a full-time position offering a diverse general surgical and cytopathology case mix, with opportunities to participate in academic, quality improvement, and research initiatives. You’ll practice in a busy, well-established referral center with strong support from PathGroup’s subspecialty experts across our national network. The incoming pathologist will join a cohesive, experienced team that values collaboration, balanced workloads, and professional growth.

Practice & Team Highlights

  • Join an established, respected group. We currently have 3 pathologists and are expanding the team.
  • Cases range from simple cholecystectomies to complex oncologic resections (e.g., Whipples and recurrent angiosarcoma cases)
  • Strong hemepath service, with consults and collaboration with a nearby hematology fellowship program; ideal for pathologists with interest in heme, lymph node, or molecular work.
  • Frozen sections: Average ~2 per day, primarily performed in person with increasing use of Grundium digital technology anticipated
  • No autopsy requirement.
  • Call is equitably rotated among the team for weekday and weekend coverage. Approximately 90% of calls involve minimal activity, typically limited to phone consults or specimen handling questions.
  • High-volume, robotic bronchoscopy lab with EBUS and ablation cases provides excellent exposure to advanced pulmonary pathology.
  • CAP-accredited lab, dedicated histology and cytology teams, and a transition underway to digital pathology (slides processed in Dallas for morning review).

About the Practice & Setting

  • Regional academic health system with more than 500 beds, serving as a major referral center for East Texas.
  • The community hosts a public health laboratory providing specialized testing for regional hospitals and clinics.
  • Opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement projects, or teaching as new medical programs expand in the area.
  • Collaborative, collegial environment with a strong foundation in clinical excellence and pathology innovation.

About Tyler, Texas

  • Known as the “Rose Capital of America,” Tyler is home to the Texas Rose Festival and one of the country’s largest rose gardens.
  • Vibrant mid-sized city (~110,000 residents) with a long-established medical community and strong local economy.
  • Rolling piney woods, dogwoods, azaleas, and nearby lakes offering year-round beautiful outdoor recreation.
  • 90 miles east of Dallas and 90 miles west of Shreveport—close enough for easy access, far enough for a relaxed pace of life.
  • Affordable housing, top-rated schools, family-friendly neighborhoods, and a thriving arts and music scene.
  • Growing regional biotech and healthcare sector with increasing investment in medical education and research.
