Performance Technician (2023)
SUMMARY The Performance Technician performs tests and inspections, develops programs and procedures, and provides general support for activities within the scope of the Operations Department. Also responsible for assisting with plant performance tests, vibration, thermography and lubrication monitoring to determine overall plant performance. Acts in assigned position for Emergency Response Organization in accordance with Section C of the Station Emergency Plan, when required.
EDUCATION:
High School/GED or equivalent (required)
Associate Degree in Process Technology, Math or Science Discipline. Military and or work experience such as Navy Nuclear Program, Aviation Mechanic, Test Technician, Electronics repair, mechanical helper, NDE technician maybe considered in lieu of degree. (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE:
2 Years + (Minimum 36 months) experience with performance of 10CFR50, Appendix J, non destructive examination techniques; vibration instrumentation, thermographic imaging or acoustic valve testing, performance testing of HVAC systems. (Required)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Texas Drivers license (Required)
General Employee Training 1, 2, 3 and 4 (including respirator) (Required)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs tests and inspections, assisting in the development of programs and procedures, and providing general support for activities within the scope of the Operations Department.
Assists in procedure development, engineering drawing review, data review, and evaluation of test results.
Performs reviews of technical manuals, specifications, flow diagrams, elementary diagrams, logic diagrams, and other documents.
Conducts plant performance tests on condensers, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, purifiers, diesel engines, valves, and chillers and review test results.
Conducts tests to determine overall plant performance.
Performs cathodic protection surveys and review test results.
Performs vibration, thermography, and lubrication monitoring of installed plant equipment and review test results.
Performs non destructive examinations on plant components and equipment.
Reviews results and prepares reports based on examination results.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accept ERO position as needed.
Accept outage position as needed.
Conducts testing for the Fire Protection Program . This includes; Fire Detection Testing, Fire Pump Performance Testing, Deluge Actuation Testing, Visual inspection of Fire Protection Equipment, Fire Extinguishers, Hoses, Valves, etc.
Meets and maintains requirements for performance technician certifications and task specific certifications; performs on the job training for performance technicians.
Performs other duties as assigned by management and supervision.
SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
Knowledge of basic mechanical equipment and principles; ability to use algebra to interpolate values and solve performance calculations; ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Ability to use basic hand and power tools; to carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and to discern assorted colors.
Ability to meet requirements to wear a respirator.
