The requirements

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with 2–5 years of relevant experience; or B.Tech in Civil Technology with 5–7 years of planning and scheduling experience in building construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project (MSP).
  • Experience in preparing look-ahead schedules, recovery plans, and delay analysis.
  • Experience in preparing weekly/monthly progress reports, dashboards, S-curves, histograms, and KPI reports.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
  • Strong knowledge of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Critical Path Method (CPM), baseline scheduling, and schedule updating.
  • Proficiency in resource loading, productivity analysis, and resource optimization.
  • Ability to monitor project progress, identify schedule variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, procurement planning, and project controls.
  • Excellent analytical, coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The position

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan invites applications for the position of Planning Engineer at its Gilgit Office. The role entails the following key responsibilities and requires candidates to meet the criteria outlined below.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning & Scheduling
  • Prepare, develop, and maintain detailed project schedules and work plans using approved planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project).
  • Develop and update Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), activity lists, project milestones, and schedule logic.
  • Prepare baseline schedules and periodic schedule revisions in coordination with the Construction Manager and Site Engineers.
  • Develop weekly and monthly work plans and look-ahead schedules to support project execution.
  • Assist in resource planning by coordinating manpower, equipment, and material requirements with project teams.
Progress Monitoring & Schedule Control
  • Collect daily and weekly progress data from site teams and verify its accuracy.
  • Conduct bi-monthly site visits to validate reported progress against actual work completed.
  • Monitor project progress against the approved baseline schedule and identify schedule variances.
  • Track critical path activities and identify potential delays or schedule risks.
  • Perform basic delay analysis (e.g., planned vs. actual and as-planned vs. as-built comparisons) and document the causes of delays.
  • Prepare progress measurement reports, S-curves, histograms, and other planning metrics.
Reporting & Performance Analysis
  • Prepare weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly project progress reports.
  • Develop dashboards, summary reports, KPI trackers, and graphical progress presentations for management.
  • Support the Construction Manager in preparing planning presentations for progress review meetings.
  • Provide schedule forecasts and recommend corrective actions to improve project performance.
  • Assist in developing recovery and acceleration plans to mitigate delays and achieve project milestones.
  • Compile supporting records, including delay events, correspondence, site records, and progress evidence, for Extension of Time (EOT) submissions and contractual reporting.
Documentation & Record Management
  • Maintain accurate and organized planning records, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Update Gantt charts, planning registers, progress logs, and schedule revisions.
  • Ensure timely submission, filing, and archiving of site progress reports and planning documents.
  • Maintain proper documentation to support audits, project reviews, and contractual requirements.
Coordination & Communication
  • Coordinate with Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyors (QS), QA/QC Engineers, Procurement, and other project teams to obtain accurate progress information.
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders regarding planning and scheduling matters.
  • Share updated schedules, progress reports, and recovery plans with relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal and external project review meetings and provide planning-related technical support.
  • Support the Construction Manager in monitoring project milestones and ensuring timely completion of project deliverables.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure planning activities comply with project specifications, contractual obligations, organizational procedures, and applicable industry standards.
  • Identify planning and scheduling risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of planning processes, reporting systems, and project controls.
  • Perform any other planning and project control duties assigned by the Construction Manager or Head of Department.
