JOB TITLE: Play & Learn Staff
REPORTS TO: Youth & Family Director and/or as assigned
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly
JOB PURPOSE:
The Play & Learn Staff member provides direct care and supervision for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. This role supports children’s development through age-appropriate activities while building positive relationships with families. Staff serve as role models of professionalism, inclusion, and YMCA values while contributing to a high-quality youth experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Provide constant, active supervision of children at all times to ensure safety and well-being
- Greet children and families warmly at arrival and departure, supporting a positive member experience
- Lead and support age-appropriate, structured activities that encourage development and engagement
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment and equipment
- Communicate professionally and regularly with parents and guardians
- Follow and consistently enforce all program policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements
- Model inclusive practices that ensure all children feel safe, respected, and welcome
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct in all interactions
- Maintain current knowledge of YMCA programs, policies, and procedures
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.
- Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.
- Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.
- Abide by the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned
Required:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of six months experience working with children ages 6 weeks–12 years
- Strong desire and demonstrated ability to work with children
- Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Certification (will provide upon hire)
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with children, parents, and coworkers
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
Preferred:
- Bilingual - English/Spanish.
- Excellent communication skills
