Job description

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is looking for a full-time Electrical Engineer to support our customers at the U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington DC.

Background

The U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) is responsible for the creation, dissemination and maintenance of precise time and navigation products for the Department of Defense and other customers. CPI is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide test and validation support for critical time dissemination equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design implementation of RF electronics, RF over fiber, and timing systems; and integration of these systems into existing timing infrastructure. The position also requires validation, troubleshooting and monitoring of atomic frequency standards; and investigation of new methods of clock signal distribution and cutting-edge commercial clock technologies.

Most work for this position will be completed on-site at USNO in Washington, D.C.; travel within and outside of the continental United States will be required based on the needs of the customer. An active SECRET security clearance is required for this position, and the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET/SCI clearance upon hiring. The new Electrical Engineer will work closely with other CPI contractors and civilian members of the Precise Time Department, providing periodic updates to the Clock Operations Division Chief.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Knowledge of EE fundamentals: circuit theory, power, RF, etc.
  • Automated test and validation of electronic systems
  • Data analysis and presentation with MATLAB or Python
  • Use of test equipment: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Active SECRET security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • RF over fiber and optical link testing
  • Atomic clocks / frequency standards
  • High accuracy RF phase and frequency measurement
  • Oscillator characterization
  • Knowledge of control theory and photonics

U.S. citizenship is required for DoD contracts.
