Job description

About Upstart

At Upstart, we’re united by a mission that matters: to radically reduce the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. Every day, we bring creativity, experimentation, and advanced AI to reshape access to credit, helping millions move forward financially with clarity and confidence.

As the leading AI lending marketplace, we partner with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both radically intelligent and deeply human. Our platform runs over one million predictions per borrower using more than 3,000 signals, powering smarter, fairer decisions for millions of customers. But the numbers only hint at the impact. Every idea, every voice, and every contribution moves us closer to a world where credit never stands between people and their financial progress.

We’re proudly digital-first, giving most Upstarters the flexibility to do their best work from wherever they thrive, alongside teammates across 80+ cities in the US and Canada. Digital-first doesn’t mean distant. We’re intentional about in-person connection through team onsites, planning sessions, and moments that spark creativity and trust. And whether you choose to work primarily from home or collaborate in-person from one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City (opening Summer 2026), you’ll have the support to work in the way that works best for you.

If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.

The Team:

Help Upstart become the world’s most radically pro-consumer company in finance! Upstart’s Experimentation Platform team is building shared foundations that make experimentation easier, more reliable, and more valuable across the company. The team partners closely with Machine Learning, Analytics, product, and engineering teams to bring greater coherence to Upstart’s experimentation capabilities, improve experimentation rigor, and enable teams to learn and innovate faster.

As the Principal Product Manager, Experimentation Platform, you will co-lead this emerging platform area with cross-functional partners, shaping both its long-term strategy and the capabilities teams rely on today. You’ll help unify experimentation across teams, expand model deployment and experimentation capabilities, and establish practices that enable Upstart to scale experimentation with greater confidence.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Define and drive the strategy and roadmap for Upstart’s experimentation platform, balancing immediate business needs with a scalable, long-term platform vision supportive of agentic products.
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning, Analytics, and Engineering to build shared experimentation capabilities, including approaches for randomized experiments, model deployments, feature flags, and other emerging patterns.
  • Create common abstractions and guardrails that reduce fragmentation, improve experimentation quality, and make it easier for product and engineering teams to test and learn.
  • Establish a center of excellence for experimentation by defining standards, improving functional rigor, and enabling teams across Upstart to adopt effective experimentation practices.
  • Partner with stakeholder teams across Growth, Servicing, Capital, and Upstart’s broader organization to understand needs, prioritize opportunities, and drive adoption of shared capabilities.
  • Guide Upstart’s approach to experimentation technology and vendor partnerships, evaluating where external solutions and internally developed capabilities best support the platform strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) and 7+ years of product management experience.
  • Experience owning strategy and roadmaps for technically complex software, platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-facing products.
  • Experience partnering with engineering, data science, Machine Learning, or Analytics teams on technical product architecture, tradeoffs, and delivery.
  • Experience applying quantitative methods, including statistics, experimentation, analytics, or data science, to product development and decision-making.
  • Experience developing platforms that support Machine Learning or AI workflows, including deployment, measurement, or experimentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or leading an experimentation platform product, either within a consumer technology company or at an experimentation technology provider.
  • Knowledge of experimentation methodologies, including randomized experiments, feature flags, model experimentation, metric design, and statistical evaluation.
  • Ability to develop platform strategies that connect shared technical capabilities to broader company and product priorities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and quantitative concepts to audiences ranging from engineers and data scientists to senior leaders.
  • Ability to build alignment across multiple product and technical teams and establish shared practices in a distributed organization.
