Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a Process Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team to engage in projects across the full project lifecycle from concept selection through detailed engineering. The role will provide you with the opportunity to engaging in projects ranging from conventional oil and gas, SAGD, gas processing, energy transition, and more; and provide you with a strong foundation for your career. As a Process EIT, you will contribute to multidisciplinary projects under the leadership of a Senior Process Engineer, Process Lead or Team Lead. Your work will include evaluating process options, developing calculations and simulations, preparing process deliverables, supporting equipment and system design, and assisting with field, construction, commissioning, and operational support activities. You will be expected to apply sound engineering judgment, follow applicable codes and standards, adhere to Stantec quality and safety procedures, and develop a strong foundation in safe, practical, and cost-effective process design. This is an Edmonton or Calgary based position and reports to the Process Engineering and Technical Safety Manager. Your Key Responsibilities - Work under the direction of a Senior Process Engineer, Process Lead, or Team Lead to support process engineering design activities for projects of varying size, complexity, and phase of development. Complete assigned tasks in a timely, thorough, accurate, and organized manner. - As part of the project team, complete technical tasks and deliverables such as: - Developing process simulations, heat and material balances, utility balances, hydraulic calculations, and supporting design calculations. - Preparing studies, design basis documents, equipment specifications, performance specifications, and technical evaluations for process equipment and unit operations. - Developing, updating, and checking process engineering drawings, including PFDs, P&IDs, utility flow diagrams, tie-in lists, and process sketches. - Performing adequacy checks, capacity evaluations, bottleneck assessments, and design reviews for new and existing process equipment and systems. - Completing sizing calculations for equipment, piping, control valves, relief devices, utility systems, and instrumentation, and maintaining clear documentation of assumptions, inputs, methods, and results. - Collaborating with process team members, other engineering disciplines, vendors, construction teams, commissioning teams, and clients to deliver technically sound, coordinated, and quality work products. - Strengthening technical knowledge through project work, mentoring, informal learning, and formal training, with increasing familiarity with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and industry practices. - Supporting client interface activities through clear communication, timely responses, well-organized work products, and positive professional relationships. - Perform fieldwork to verify existing conditions, collect process and equipment data, confirm tie-ins, review equipment installations, support site queries, and provide home-office support during construction, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Basic knowledge of Process Engineering design with an interest in one or more of the following areas: SAGD, Gas Processing, Mineable Oil Sands, Refining, Conventional Oil and Gas, energy transition and low-carbon projects. - Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, piping hydraulics, line sizing, pump hydraulics, pressure drop calculations, two-phase flow concepts, and utility system design is required. - Experience with hydraulic software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, AFT Impulse, or similar tools would be an asset. - Working knowledge of industry-related simulation software (HYSYS, VMG Symmetry Process, PROMAX, etc.) would be an asset. - Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies. - Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer service attitude. - Willingness to go the ‘extra mile’ to support projects, clients and fellow employees. - Self-motivated, eager to learn, receptive to feedback, committed to professional growth, and accountable for producing accurate, complete, and well-documented work. Education and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent discipline. - New graduates through 3 years of experience. - The candidate must be registered as an EIT with any Canadian jurisdiction and working towards professional licensure. As a member of the team, an in office presence will be required. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. **Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
