Job description

The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and optimizing manufacturing processes to achieve maximum efficiency, safety, and quality. This role focuses on continuous improvement initiatives, reducing waste, troubleshooting production line inefficiencies, and scaling up new products from design to full-scale production. The ideal candidate blends deep technical expertise with a hands-on approach on the shop floor to drive operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing manufacturing workflows to identify bottlenecks, reduce cycle times, eliminate waste, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives (e.g., Kaizen events, 5S, Value Stream Mapping) to foster a culture of ongoing operational improvement.
  • Equipment & Automation: Specify, install, and qualify new production equipment and tooling. Author and execute Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Develop, update, and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flowcharts, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Provide day-to-day engineering support to production floor supervisors and operators to resolve complex technical issues and minimize downtime.
  • Quality & Compliance: Partner with the Quality department to investigate root causes of product defects or deviations (NCRs/CAPAs) and implement robust corrective actions.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Collaborate with R&D and design teams to seamlessly transition new products into full-scale production, ensuring processes are repeatable and cost-effective.
  • Safety & Ergonomics: Ensure all processes comply with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards, designing workstations that minimize ergonomic risks.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Experience: [2–5+] years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Technical Certifications: Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is highly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for layout and tooling design.
    • Familiarity with data analysis tools and statistical software (e.g., Minitab).
    • Knowledge of ERP/MES systems and automated manufacturing controls (PLC/SCADA) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both frontline operators and executive leadership.
