Job Summary

 

Solely responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the associated faculty/administration of the FIU Law Experiential Learning Program and to the following areas of the law school: Clinical, Pro Bono, Trial Advocacy and Externship Programs.

  • Supports the operations of the office and provides support for several clinical faculty members and adjunct faculty members, the Trial Advocacy Program Director and Associate Director.
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail.
  • Manages the legal clinic's referral system; daily local community members request legal services. Ensures that the community is referred to the appropriate legal services agency, during those instances that the legal clinic cannot provide the services.
  • Provides logistical and clerical support and assists with implementation of Experiential Learning curriculum, programming, and events. Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's credit card policies and procedures.
  • Maintains files, databases, and records for the Experiential Learning Program. Assists with the maintenance of the Experiential Learning Program web site by adding and editing material as needed.
  • Maintains equipment inventories, checks out and monitors equipment use, and orders replacement equipment, as necessary.
  • Serves as translator during client meetings.
  • Drafts and translates legal correspondence from English to Spanish
  • Responsible for ordering textbooks and other programmatic material, as needed.
  • Responds to student inquiries, including enrollment, registration, etc., as needed.
  • Provides administrative support and manages the Pro Bono Program.
  • Provides administrative support when there are additional projects such as FIU Law Path events; the FIU Honors College Undergraduate Volunteer Program, Green Family Foundation Neighborhood HELP Project.
  • Provides administrative support to the Guardianship project with regards to preparation of annual reporting to the courts, review of case files; following up and preparing clients, and supporting the lawyers who will lead this effort.
  • As needed, responsible for the preparation of travel authorizations, expense reports, requisitions, and procurement card transactions and reconciliations for the experiential learning program (Externships/Clinics/Pro Bono/Trial Advocacy) in PantherSoft. Acts as a University card user for departmental transactions while ensuring compliance with University credit card policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of office or related experience.
