Job description

About Houston-Galveston Area Council
The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.
We make decisions that affect our transportation system, ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors, connect people to jobs, help families recover from natural disasters, preserve water quality for our children, and so much more. We work to make the region a great place to live, work, and thrive.

What will I be doing?
H-GAC, the fiscal agent for the Gulf Coast Workforce Board (GCWB), is striving to expand the reach of the region’s public workforce system to more employers and more people through targeted projects and the growth of systemwide learning and training initiatives. To support this effort, we are seeking a Program Coordinator – Professional Development to join the Workforce Solutions team within our Human Services department.
The Gulf Coast Workforce Board, through cooperation with local governments and H-GAC’s Human Services Department, improves the quality of life for residents across the region through our Workforce Solutions workforce system. Central to this mission is a strong professional development strategy that ensures staff across the region are well-trained, supported, and prepared to deliver consistent, high-quality services.
As a Program Coordinator – Professional Development, you will serve as a key member of the Professional Development Team, supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of training initiatives for Workforce Solutions staff and contracted service providers. You will work closely with Senior Planners, program leadership, and regional partners to carry out Board-approved training plans and support professional development across the system.
In this role, you will serve as a liaison between the Board’s Professional Development Team and the Training Specialists employed by contracted service providers. While the position includes facilitation of foundational and specialized trainings, the primary focus is on supporting, guiding, and strengthening provider-led professional development efforts to ensure alignment with Board expectations, professional development and training guidelines, and systemwide standards.
This role blends training coordination, facilitation, and collaboration. You will deliver select instructor-led and virtual trainings, coordinate logistics and communication for professional development activities, and provide technical assistance to staff in the field. You will help ensure professional development activities across the region are consistent, compliant, and impactful by monitoring alignment with PD and training
guidelines, identifying gaps and strengths, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. You will also support content development by contributing to job aids, facilitator guides, and training materials aligned with adult learning principles.

Key Qualifications
  •  2–4 years of experience in training coordination, facilitation, workforce development, or a related field
  •  Experience delivering or supporting instructor-led or virtual training sessions
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate projects, and meet deadlines
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools; experience with SharePoint or LMS platforms a plus

Do you have…
  •  Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  •  3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties

Preferred Qualifications
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Human Resources, Communication, or closely related business field
  •  2–4 years of relevant experience working in workforce development, government, nonprofit, or training environments
  •   Experience facilitating or supporting professional development of staff training initiatives
  •  Familiarity with adult learning principles and training methodologies
  • Training or facilitation certifications (may be obtained within one year of employment)
  •  Experience working with multiple stakeholders or regional partners
  •  A critical thinker with problem-solving skills
Salary Range- $65,000.00-$71,400.00
